RE: Carved cejillas: new designs (in reply to papi_rf

These are 2 new designs made with stacked glued alternating veneer colors which are cut on the bias and then restacked and recut to give a zigzag pattern when shaped. $40.

And I'm still making the 2 designs in the first post of this thread.

RE: Carved cejillas (in reply to papi_rf

I put in an order for a carved one with Tony. I can't wait!

Tony, we need more photos of your other cejillas. I saw some nice ones along the back row in that group photo on the previous page. Close-ups, please.

Any plans to do customs like Ignacio Flores? Perhaps with the owner's initials?

EDIT:
Tony, you may also want to offer your cejillas on delcamp.net (classical guitar forum). Folks there would probably appreciate your work too.

Is there a website for these? It'd be nice if there was a gallery to show off this work.

Look at page one. I posted a picture of mine with my initials.
I would not hesitate to order a second one, if I needed one.

Did Tony add those for you Georg? Are they on ivory?

Yes he added them for me. It's mother of pearl.

I searched the web and couldn't find Ignacio Flores. Any tips on how I might see what he does?

And yes, I do custom ones. Copies of peghead crest designs, mostly, but some (as Georg pointed out) with initials on mother-of-pearl.

As soon as I get some more mosaic inlay I will be making more like the inlaid one in the back row. I'm trying to get a log of mosaic inlay cut to a cejilla-friendly design.

I also do a black-and-white one of stacked veneers (like the red/black ones above) with an ebony/ivory peg.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

RE: Carved cejillas (in reply to papi_rf

Mine arrived! It's very nice and worth the price, IMHO.

It looks like an antique. Putting it on my Yamaha might actually make folks think my guitar came from Spain (at least until they look into the soundhole). They might then instead accuse me of having pilfered the capo from a museum.

Thanks Tony!!

RE: Carved cejillas (in reply to papi_rf

i ordered one of tony's carved cejillas. he didn't have any ebony in stock when i initially emailed him, but he notified me the day he received it. that day i paypal'd him the money and the next email from him a few hours later notified me that it had been shipped!

i just picked it up from the mail and it's just as everyone else says - perfect. it's the same one as ChiyoDad's in the post above this one, so i won't bother taking a picture.

tony's got my recommendation, without hesitation. thanks!!

RE: Carved cejillas (in reply to superboo

Thanks for the recommendation, superboo.

By the way, I'm doing a plain, simple boxwood one now that looks really traditional -- same color as the cypress back/sides of a blanca, with just a touch of ebony (a pin in the end of the peg).

And, of course, the ever-popular carved ebony.

So, I show them my new DeVoe and they are really impressed. Then I put my cejilla on the second fret and everyone says, "Hey, wait a minute, what's that?" A peg-head capo on a peg-head guitar...carved, in ebony.

Tony - You are THE MAN!

Yes, Alex. I have gotten my hands on more ebony and I have them available again. Same price ($40, shipping free; use paypal to arnold@gly.fsu.edu) as before. I also got some boxwood and made a bunch of elegant but very simple traditional boxwood ones with ebony trim -- sort of a "puro" version. I'm sorry about not responding to your post! It has been a while since I checked the foro -- most of my orders come thru direct email rather than posts.

Yay! He's still around!

We need an enlargement of your 'catalog' photo. I think I want another cejilla.

Okay, Alex, here is a photo of a bunch of cejillas available without a wait -- sitting on a stack of carved ebony boxes (just showin' off there).

The 3 in the middle are the most popular carved ebony/mammoth ivory ones.

Two on the bottom (L&R leaning against box front) are works in progress -- one a ramirez peghead design, the other a conde medialuna.

'course I am. And I hope you're still enjoying your cejilla! Just been busy lately -- did 3 performances of Blood Wedding with Corazon Flamenco (lots of rehearsal -- and now we're starting El Amor Brujo). And built a cajon -- inlaid and dovetailed, of course. And all tricked out with pickups. And of course the usual gigs have kept me busy. AND I'm working on an instructional DVD of a bunch of great old puro bulerias falsetas I learned from Carlos Ramos, Rafael Morales, and others. I plan on giving it away free with cejillas. That old stuff really shouldn't be lost.

Honestly -- you guys know my standards on cejillas ... these falsetas are better. Good, old, gutsy stuff.

Catalog! Who has time for catalogs! I can't keep up with making the cejillas! I started paying for a web site a year ago and haven't even had a chance to put anything on it yet. I should really terminate the contract. . . In fact I tried, but I spent so much time on hold I gave up, went out to the garage and made another cejilla.

Oy! Let's get an enlarged photo of those three cejillas in front of the boxes (the ones on the second row) ... the 'works in progress'.

RE: Carved cejillas (in reply to ChiyoDad

I live to serve . . . frankly, I'd rather make cejillas than upload photos. I think I may be a Luddite. Lemme check . . . yep. Luddite.

The middle one (ivory/ebony peg, holly/ebony body) is finished. Sort of nuevo, isn't it? The medialuna will be much less chunky once I cut the bottom off it. The macro photo lens angle makes it look wonky and asymmetrical, but it's not.

So no comment on the carved ebony box underneath . . .? I'm developing a classical guitar footstool design in carved rosewood with that degree of elegance. . .
