DVD subtitles

Hi guys, any one got the subtitles or narration from the Gerardo Nunez encuentro DVD? I have the book in pdf format ,which is supposed to have some sort of narrative for the DVD but there isnt any

I appreciate if someone can send me a link or file cause I dont understand a word in spanish:)

Ahm... why pdf? I can safely surmise that you did not purchase the book, and furthermore, the DVD, because the english transcript is most certainly there, unless there is a mistake in publishing. Sorry I do not have it for you.

I dont have the original yet because I read at flamencoworld that it contains no subtitles!

In the back of every Encuentro book there is the whole speech written down in different languages. That's at least the case for the Merengue de Cordoba books.

So it is no wise idea to ask for the subtitles in the net, because you make most of us here think that you downloaded it somewhere.

However, I don't get the reason why Encuentro doesn't put subtitles on the DVD...

Owen, I've noticed you genuinely seem to be a nice and innocent guy...

Admittedly, the Flamenco-World description is not clear, but your logic is flawed and I suspect misdirecting for me. Anyway, now you know it has an English text because I just told you! So now you may go out and buy it without fear!

Georg, thanks. I'm glad I'm not completely alone on this subject. I had written a long diatribe but decided to refrain...

Anyway, Georg... I think you could just have answered your own question... It's more work for anyone bootlegging to have to copy the book with included transcript, and anyone with the DVD or that sees it on youtube who does not speak Spanish would not understand. So perhaps Encuentro had some foresight, but I think it's more likely that it was less costly, because they decided to translate in to several languages. Otherwise, they would require several subtitle tracks on the DVD, which might increase the disk space, but I dunno about those things...

Lately i saw a RUSSIAN SYNCHRONIZATION on the net... really true, someone invested time and work to do this. Surely the costs were too much for Encuentro (the increased data volume is negligible). If its a good idea to produce a DVD for the international market with neither english subtitles nor synchronization is an interesting question.

I felt a little bit cheated when I got my first copy of an Encuentro production. Subtitles are a thing you would expect in the 21st century.

I mean they recorded this stuff to sell it on video tapes. Subtitles for different languages would not have been possible. When they put the whole thing on DVD they didn't do anything...

As far as I can remember, the book contains Spanish, French and English text.
For the DVD, the English and French subtitle would have been enough. I doubt that deaf Spanish people would buy a DVD that teaches them Flamenco...

Having said that, the Encuentro products are still very well worth the money, but as competition with other companies grows, they'll have to start thinking about it.

Encuentro was never in it for the money. The idea is simply to SEE the MAESTROS doing their thing (rather than say a method from some unknown figure). Few of them talk a lot anyway. The translation in the book is MORE THAN ENOUGH, serious students should be trying to learn SOME SPANISH at the same time. If you know at least some basic flamenco vocab, it is quite clear what they are saying. If you dont know a certain word (Gerardo talks about "Calchon" during rasgueado) you can just glance at the text and see EXACTLY what was being said. I don't think having everything on a silver platter is going to help anyone learn flamenco better. And simply because you are fluent in Spanish, does not mean you suddenly are going to learn how to play better.

I agree, we should be learning how to speak Spanish, but in Gerardo's case, wouldn't you say he has an ever so slight speech impediment in addition to his Andalusian accent? hehe

Thanks Conrad, thats all I wanted to know! The fact that it has a text somewhere in the book really helps me a lot just in case I want to look up a particular word! That said, I think that judging from the demo on flamencoworld it looks like its a great dvd. Now I can finally order it and try to learn something from this great player.

Subtitles from multiple languages can be burned onto a single DVD, accessed via a menu. I know this because I have several DVDs with this feature. And they take up very little space; a subtitle file for a two hour movie rarely takes up more than 50-60 KB.

If I ever get around to buying this DVD I'll probably burn subtitles into it for my own private use. There's no way I'd share a modified copy of someone else's copyrighted material!

hehe, true, Ron. Hey, we're just havin' a laugh, no? But okay, I take it back. And you know I love him and he's never looked severe to me which you've brought up a number of times. Instead his look/mannerisms always reminded me of manouche player Stochelo Rosenberg, whom I've met and is a total sweetheart.

I guess I won't know anything until I meet Gerardo. To me, it's only his playing which "bursts up in to the ass" like Grisha's Tremolo (to quote our beloved Doitsujin). And as my friend said about Paco de Lucia, he's a "VICIOUS" guitar player!

I dunno, but Gerardo has always looked a bit of a "hard man" to me.

My joke was from an old Monty Python sketch, where a couple of London East-End gangsters are talking in the pub after attending the funeral of their boss.

Yeah...he was the tops... Heart of gold he had..mind you he wouldn't take any nonsense...

as far as i recall scots dont like being associated as britain. kinda like the Oirish, we hate when some american documentary makers say "the bristish isles".

hehe... Henry, I've seen the flag flying in Ron's avatar for five years, and I know that. Heck, I'm almost a pure Scottish descendant myself and proud of it. My brother lives in Glasgow, too. And my father looks like an old Sean Connery.

I'll be more specific from now on. I just meant because Python was associatively British.

It doesn't bother me at all..
Only when at the Olympics or something when they say things on the news like "Another medal for England", when it's an English athlete.
And "Another medal for Britain", when it's a Scottish athlete.

Yeah, Ralph C was good at times.

I particularly liked when Ralph C's friend took Ralph up to the Hospital, drunk, with an axe sticking out his head.
"And what's wrong with him?" the receptionist asks as she fills in the paperwork.

"Whit's wrang wi im??", his friend replies incredulously....
"He's got the flu!...whit the bloody hell do ye think's wrang wi im".

ah that'll all change when mr. ian "the bigot" or big eejit's gone.hopefully our brothers in the north or as other like it to be known as ulster (even though its missing 3 countys to be the true province of ulster) will let all that nasty stuff in the past be forgotten about.

funnily (actually its probably really boring) enuff ron since im studying law, ireland is a republic but is'nt called the republic of ireland.simply either Eire or Ireland. caused alot of hassle with paperwork for extradition requests from britain during the 1980's as apparently the country republic of ireland does not exist

LOL! Henry,
I was down in Limerick many years ago during "the troubles" in the North.
I went into this pub and got my pint of Murphy's and not knowing anyone there since I was on my own, had a wander around the bar.
There were lots of photographs in frames of the 1916 rising and documents from that time about not paying rent to the English landlords which I liked.
And all these really strong Irish accents around me.
Having changed aircraft at Belfast, and seen the British Army walking around with guns there and looking all around the place with mirrors on long sticks for bombs etc...I thought I better drink up and get out quick before they thought I was maybe a Black & Tan spy and get kneecapped!

But I was there for 2 weeks (in transit to a job where the timing was wrong...no hassle...they were paying!!)

Actually Fenit up the coast a bit where my hotel was, was a great place!
I met up with a few folk there who played guitar and were really nice people, even going back to their houses for a bit of a jam and a drink!

Great memories.

was the pub w.j souths by any chance? will souths brother (the owner of the pubs), sean south went up the north with a few guys to try an start a rebllion up there hence the song sean sabht
