Everybody is in the same position Dom...
It all boils down as to how you want to allocate your dough IMO.
I mean you already spent $40 on a cejilla, I'm sure you're not starving and I'm sure you like a beer.
But if you want Ricardo's well thought out lessons, then I guess you'll have to stump up.

Or trawl the net for some free "lessons".

But hey... please don't bother the man here...Ricardo already gives a lot of advice for free.

cheers,

Ron

actually Ron, dont stop there, why dont you keep judging me? i bought the capo on a credit card, perhaps you can advise me more on my finances and how i should allocate them, and try and put a guilt trip on me for asking a simple flamenco related question on a flamenco forum.

Naw Dom,
I mean you can bother me or Henrik or ToddK or Florian etc...
But we don't play much Rumba.

Ricardo used to have a Rumbero band at one time (to make some dough! )

cheers,

Ron

No secret. You just have to have good rhythm, and understand the details and nuances of dynamics etc with in that.

Of course you can always buy Juan Martin's method Dominic, or Borrow Florian's copy!

The secret is to play over the soundhole, and use really old, crusty strings.

Chill dude, it's Shroomy's fault - he even admits it.

Just act like a duck, it works for me!

For my rumba strum, I don't bother with the slapping part and it still sounds good.

personally, i took the gipsy kings records and slowed them way the hell down. that and my intro to guitars with nylon strings was ottmar liebertt.

i'm actually dead serious. i realize that makes me an awful person lol.

i htink the key to the rhumba strum is definitely not using just I on the first downstroke, i have found that using a and m together instead of i makes for a much better rhumba strum

i think the slap is best minimized to just the thumb lightly golpe at first.

you know, i watched ricardo's videos and they are very good, but in my opinion it didnt really help me too much. ten again, i was already rhumba strumming away b4 i saw them =)

Jesus what happened here ?

Give the guy a brake, he dosent have money dosent have money, i dont have money. SO what ? sure hes got enough stress in his life without having to justifie his budget here.
I am sure Ricardos lessons are excellent and if Domenic could he would, no need to rub it in his face.

regardless of weather his reaction was justified or not, he IS right, he did ask a straight foward flamenco related question in a flamenco forum, and he didnt ask Ricardo personally. He wasent rude, wasent arrogant, Hes done no more or less than anyone of us has in the past.

Also Domenic , chill mate, why are you taking it so personal ?, most of what i see is light half joking coments that you can eazy replie with a smile on your face and not have to apologise to anyone for beeing broke. Its not that you overeacted but they dont know your state of mind, if you are under stress or whatever ATm, the smallest joke can seem insulting.

and enough with the ****ing rating game, when people are upset there is a reason they act a certain way, rating them down only puts them even lower, forghet the ****ing rating, we all know eachother , lets not kick eachother while we are down cause its ****ing low.

A person is clearely upset so what do you do ? make it look like the whole world is against him, isolate him even more ? its fake, stupid and realy realy uncompassionat..incompassionat..compassionatless whatever the ****ing word is , you know !

YOU B*STARD !!! you broke my heart with that one

@ Domenic, cmon mate dont take it so personally, it might have not been the most straight foward replies but it was nothing that bad, it was mostly jokes and light conversation, perhaps even missinformed and sarcastic but nothing that mean. Hoping that once you chill you look over it again and realize that.

Besides you not allowed to quit unless you make atlist a 3 page "Good Bye" post

Sorry Dominic,
I could have phrased that better...
I should have said..
"I think Ricardo is probably the best guy to give advice here, having had a Rumba Band himself for a while.
We all know he's always very helpful.. but we've got to realize that it puts him in a bit of an awkward position here to reply on this one, since the guys over at FT have got to pay for his video lessons."

Sorry if it made you sound like a moocher, I didn't mean to.

I always thought all you Aussies were laid back, "no worries" sorta guys.
Sorry it got you so upset.

cheers,

Ron

Ron i appreciate the fact that you are taking the initiative to make peace lol

If Ricardo is the best guy and is in that position then let the second best or 3rd best or anyone else take it, if it dosent bother DOmenic getting advice from 2nd or 3rd or 4th in line why sould it bother you ?

Ricardo shouldnt have to feel like he has to answer everything, why was it an awkward position ?he wasent asking Ricardo specificaly, it was just a general question aimed at anyone that wanted to help.

Ricardo is qualified to answer all questions here, does that mean noone should ask any because it might put him under pressure to answer all ? thats ridiculous,
noone expects anymore from Ricardo than what he has allready given, we all apreciate it including Domenic, nowhere did Domenic mention Ricardo.

i am sorry but this arggument dosent have a leg to stand on

just a simple "sorry " would have done it and then i am sure he will be man enough to apologise for his part. its not that hard ... You made assumptions and misscomunicated (and i say this with love for you ), he overeacted (and i say this with love for him ) etc etc. lets not paint **** yellow and call it gold , we are all to smart for that

My mom apologises just like this and if you blink , by the end the apology ends its all your fault again.

but i will shut up now i have said enough you guys all do what u think its right, its alot of stress on me always beeing this right

Good left hand muting, and the flexibility to get back to fixed position techniques without losing time.

It is a great thing to practice the right hand alone whilst reciting the cascada rhythm ( the one that goes 'I dont like carrots I like tomatoes' ). Maybe one bar strulmming one bar picado alternating on a single string.

If you don't fancy that then I can sell you some magic beans.

I can't figure how that fits. Can you explain? I'm fond of using daft rhymes to help with rhythms

a 1
DaDa .Da. DaDa. Dada. Dada. Da.
I dont like carrots I like toma toes

The 'I' is ahead of the downbeat, dots and syllables all last one quarter beat.

I use slap, i (up and close hand), i (down), P (up and hand opens to prepare slap). This is in straight semiquavers and it is real good for the coordination and variety of accents to say the cascada which is syncopated in a interesting ways.
This rhythm is used extensively in cuban music and also (often inversion) in african drumming.
