No, sorry, I listened for a few seconds but I find it too classical.

There was a time I listened to and played Albeniz, Turina, Rodrigo and that kind of stuff. But since I learned that flamenco is something different then just "spanish music", I hate this kind of stuff.

Hi Carmen.
I respect all artists. But you also have to respect my opinion.

There's some uploads from me on the audio section. They are my attempts to play flamenco. You can bash me, but I still hate this music.

It doesn't even begin to meet flamenco.

I'm with Koella here. It sounds too classical. There's no need to argue with him. If you like the music, it's good for you. Don't expect that everybody does, you would be disappionted.

Somehow I have the feeling, that this post belongs to an advertising campaign which started today, since I also received an e-mail from this site...

And believe me, Koella can play...

By the way, it would be interesting wherefrom they know the e-mail address to which they have written...

Carmen,
I can't get any music on your site.
Yeah there have been a few flamenco pianists over the years in Andalucia.
Some of it is pretty nice.
Diego Amador plays some good stuff.

cheers,

Ron

Yeah, welcome to the foro Carmen! Some people here hate anything to do with classical music and musicans. Any time they point the finger look out! But there are many influences in the flamenco, and classical is just as valid as puro. Why so much hate? Why, I don't know and if I did I wouldn't say it here..piano flamenco is very exciting, and deserves an audience, and will no doubt get it. You have very good taste in music.

I'll help her ( or who ever it is ) plug it:

WAIT JUST A MINUTE.
Have you listened to Paco Delucia, have you listened to Gerardo Nunez ?
You haven't heard nothing untill you buy the cd oooooooof ( raises his voice in a roalercoaster way, adding a little crescendo to it ) ..... damn.......*forgot his name*.... ( The hit on the Chinese gong remains though )

( pronounced quickly though with a lowered voice ) Provided for you now at your local recordstore.

Mmm well koella there may be a Carmen - on the site it says that palmas and baile is by Carmen la Negra - I think that might be our Carmen99! It does seem suspicious that the release date of the album was yesterday, so it probably is a promotional posting.

However can't pass comment on the music as I can't get it to load, and in fact it crashed my computer!

Sorry Carmen, I have to agree with Koella. Its not that this guy can't play piano. He clearly is an acomplished musician. Its just not very flamenco!

...and I'm not against flamenco piano. I saw a young gypsy guy a few weeks ago in the Eshivira put down his guitar and play a bulerias on the piano.....very impromtu, but every bit as expressive as the guitar, he somehow managed to make that piano sound percussive.....that was real flamenco.

Ron, do you know Juan Cortes?
He is also a great flamenco pianist. It is same like some solo flamenco guitar which you hear, only with piano instead of guitar

check it out: https://www.flamenco-world.com/tienda/files/song_2624.ra

p.s. Chano Dominguez plays also some good stuff.

I think it's great that there is a piano flamenco website. It will be interesting to see what else it has to offer, and maybe that is the point of this thread, that piano flamenco is exciting music, whether you like it more classical or not. The website is truely a great resource. And, then there is no need for arguement, if you like it, go there. I'm glad to see it.

When we were in Spain in August we went to see an amazing pianist Dorantes. It was really fusion, jazz I guess, but you could really hear the flamenco influences in there, and even if you didn't like the compositions, you couldn't help admire the musicianship. Guess it's a case of each to their own.

So I'm listening to it right now and have to say its alright. Quite interesting to hear solea played on a piano.
Obviously you can't escape the fact that its a piano and doesnt really have the raw sounds you can get/hear in a guitar (actually maybe it does Im no pianist)
I can quite easily listen to this without getting upset like koella.

and so what if its a plug!!

My favourite bit of piano in flamenco is on gerardos "Calima"

Flamenco on piano is 'interesting'; the artist is definitely talented and the selection sounds very 'flamenco', but it is just not the same for me as flamenco guitar. Piano flamenco, while I respect the artist and his talent, is just not for me.

I'll take Sabicas over piano any day and everyday!

Hola amigos,

I have bought this CD on Saturday here in Sevilla, where the pianist has presented his release in a local music store. In the store there have been 90% women.

I really love the arangemtents from Sabicas and Paco, that he put on....I love this traditional style...

Piano Flamenco is just new wave in Andalucia...I think....

...unfortunately I am not the Carmén on the CD :))

Saludos,

Carmén

anyway good stuff.

Thanks for posting.

No, it didn't do it for me, too classical and not percussive enough, not flamenco enough.

My favourite flamenco piano player is Pablo Ruben Maldonado, a Gitano from Almanjayar who was a guest artist on the Taller de Compás project. On the album its called Jam Session por Bulerías and on our myspace site its called Jam de Pablo. Have a listen and let me know what you think.

In theory I love it. In practice, I haven't really come across much that does it for me. A lot of stuff seems to be repetitious improvisations around a theme (although I suppose that's what guitar is too, but it's different somehow) with no real driving force.

I did hear a guy play with Serranito at the Malaga Bienal (I think it was Moises Sanchez, along with Javier Paxarino on the flute). Together, they produced a fantastic sound. Perhaps that's what I like, the piano when it's an integral part of a band with lots of percussion and strong compass.

Carmen, there are no sound clips for the cd you point us to. Are there any out there? Can anyone recommend flamenco piano that fits my garbled description?

Hello Carmen

As you say tastes differ. I'm biased anyway as we recorded that track and the singers and jaleos are the Gitano kids from the Anaquerando project. Pablo composed it in the studio as they recorded so its totally sponaneous and raucous, like a live party. That's flamenco for me.

I wonder what Mateo Reyes thinks, he joined our myspace friends so think he must like it a bit
