the music comes from flanders, belgium.
we are flamenco's and we even speak flamenco, yes we do....
so, the spaniards stole our music and we're the only ones who can or may play this music....

so don't care where sabicas is from, he was not allowed to play flamenco...
even if he studied here, he wasn ot born in belgium with such a name.

(and ps; ricardo, hot jazz is also from belgium, django reinhardt was born here, so even the french are not allowed to play it,

I couldn't agree more :-).

yes jan willem,

belgium rules the world, alltough nobody knows it but it's true!!!
you see, there is no reaction on our posts because everybody is afraid....
afraid to admit that belgium is the center of the universe and we speak flamenco!!!

sorry about that, couldn't help myself

To quote my cousin: "Yeah dude, flamingo f'in rocks..."

We in Germany aren't too far off either though! We have Jan Hengsmith, Rafael Cortes, Miguel Iven, Michio Woirgardt, just to name some guitarists...

conclusion,
we're all belgians

and romerito, I was talking about the roots, not who plays it....

you're not allowed to play because you're not flamenco

so now if we put it that way, you guys should come to belgium to discover flamenco , where it all started.....

ok, sorry about all this, couldn't help myself

I still like it. It's the power of the Joe Beck bit I liked best - influenced of course, by 3 awesome, fit, scantily clad young men who danced with gusto!

only to earn money

Who can blame him? It's the name of the game. With the odd exception, isn't that what being a "professional" musician is all about?

Val

Don't give up the day job.

I just gave an info about this collaboration (with Joe beck) without passing judgment on him.

I am very confused...hasn't Belgium only been an independant country since 1831??
Seems strange to have an art form older than the country it originated from!

Seriously though, I read somewher that sephardic jews fleeing to Flanders were allowed to sing their songs and because of those songs of Iberian origin, they became known as Flamencos.

It's all about veneration. You take a name, you keep your name, or you are known for something, you are venerated for your work. If you are not venerated you are just another guitarist. You may be venerated for the region that you came from or where you took your training, or by the music you are known for. That is something that people don't understand and they take a name it is just another name without veneration. What one era venerates may be different from another. Sabicas is truely venerated. Veneration is truely important in the flamenco.

indeed pimientito,
we are a country since 1830
but wasn't it julius caesar who said the greatest words about us?
from all the gaulles, the belgians are the bravest...
so you see, we have quite a history....:))

ok, I'm gonna stop now, as we still don't have a governement,
and we're already 150 days after the election....

and I heard that too about the jewish. Another is that people from flanders, when spain ruled over our country in the 16th century, went to spain and were very noisy over there and drank very much.....
we still do

Which reminds me... I owe 10 euros to some guy in Belgium.

He's from "Opwijk" or something (weird names you have).

oh it's your lucky day, I know "some guy" in opwijk("uptown" :-)), maybe you can give me the 10euro and I'll give it to him...............I promis...:-).

But to be honest, the typical flemisch guy isn't very into rythm, music or even musicly expres emotion. They are more into beer and football. So even if some of the earliest flamenco had it's roots in flanders, still I'm sure it was created by immigrants (for inst those jews).

HAHAHAHAHA I was wondering how long it would take for that to come!

The best way to make a German angry is to not know the difference between Germany and Bavaria.

Can you blame them?
