Well, how did it go? Would have loved to have been there and met some of the foro members based in the UK. Just too far to travel. Any pics?

Well I thought it was a pretty great day! On the guitar course were Val, Jenny, Manzmann (Stu) and me - great to meet all those guys.

Val came along to the Pena afterwards and we danced sevillanas - sadly not sure if there are any pics.

I got my big frilly dress on and danced a bulerias por solea. Think it didn't go too badly considering I only finished learning it last Monday However might put some bits on youtube and then you can all see for yourselves!

Stu, Val and Jenny - hope you enjoyed the guitar course!

Oooops!! Yes so you were - sorreeeeee. I was quite nervous about whether it would all go OK, so was a bit distracted. And it was your suggestion to do Solea on the course, so I hope it's going OK for you!

Thanks Ailsa. It went well - terrific teacher. I only hope I can remember what we did so that I can pratise. The Pena was good fun and I thought you danced your bps very well. Didn't I spy your husband with a camcorder? Surely there will be a utube upload soon!

Edit: Sorry, just noticed you do plan to put something on utube.

Off to Spain again tomorrow for a couple of weeks. Farewell all.

Hey Ailsa,
I thought the course started very well. I must admit, I'd never done any group lessons before, except when I was at school, and was almost expecting the session to be a bit chaotic and noisy. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the way people were attentive and courteous to when Antonio was talking and also by the fact that I never had any problems hearing myself over the other guitarists.

As for the material, I personally found it very simple. Which isn't to say it wasn't valuable. I particularly found the P, a, i, Rasgueado very helpful as this is a technique I've been working on recently and the way Antonio broke it down and encorporated it slowly into the piece was really helpful.
I was left wanting more and probably could have played for a few more hours.

I did notice that you seemed rather stressed but I guess that comes with being an organiser and getting through the first lesson. Congratulations on getting it all together. Should be more relaxed for you now and hopefully you'll have more time to play.

I was a bit disappointed I couldn't make the Pena as I would have liked to chat to a few folk about technique, music etc ... and to have seen you dance. I'll be there next month.

All in all, I had a great time and just to be in a room with 20+ other flamenco guitarists, all sharing the same passion was great. I left feeling thoroughly inspired.

Thanks and good job!

See ya at the next one (and on the foro in the meantime!)

Oh dear! You are right I was nervous, really because it was the first time I'd done it and if something went wrong I would have felt I had let down the teachers and all you guys that came along.

And I was nervous about the dance in the evening because if I messed that up I would have felt I had let down my teacher!

So yes, it was a bit of a full day for me, and I'm sorry if that showed. Next time I'll try to be less hyper!

Just read your post again Stu. I don't think you could have said anything nicer. I feel really happy that I organised something that has inspired someone!

Look I'm not stressed now. I'm smiling and happy.

Thats good.

By the way, in my post I called our teacher Antonio, which I've just found out (due to post in general forum) is his surname, so oops!

Gonna check his vids out now.

Hi,

I really enjoyed it, despite being an hour late!! I've only learnt any solea with the lovely Juan Martin before so it was nice being taught it properly and in person...

And good to go through the rasgueados in a slow and methodical way.

It's a shame Nov's pena doesn't match up with the course - I'll definitely make the December one though!

Yes it is a shame, but as Ailsa said in a recent email, theres always the possibility of a few of going to a local pub for a drink or two and some chat if anyone fancies it.
The YMCA is right near the little Spanish area in Oxford street so maybe there's somewhere there we can go. Theres also a Flamenco bar right there (forgot the name) so maybe a chance to catch some music and dance afer all.
