He seems to have it down, but the audio is not real good. There are several times, but not always, I hear a "chorusing" effect, that I assume is the result of him not being perfectly synched with the recording. I mean I think he is playing ALONG with Gerardo (Encuentro version), so you are not hearing him by himself. That is just a guess because the audio is not real clear. The fingerings he is using looks correct. But at times I am sure I hear two guitars not quite playing the same thing.

I agree Ricardo.
After watching the video again, there are some very short parts where you can see that he is playing along with a recording (for example a very fast picado run, where it seams that he missed or let out some notes).

I dont understand why sometimes these good players does this.
(I remember another guy doing the same - playing along with original track)
I mean it looks like all fingerings are correct as you said and that he is almost able to play the whole song.

edit: for example , pay attention @ 1:04 , his right hand!

I am dissapointed now.

He is really good but it seams that he wants to be Gerardo!! Some sort of showing off.....

Yeah, he's playing along with the actuall Gerardo recording.

He could sound like dog poop, and you wouldnt really notice, cause
he's being buried by the sound of the record.

Nice try, but no dice.

And here he is playing La Barossa.

In this video it is even more difficult to realise that he is playing along with the original track. But you can see it again when he is playing the super fast picado runs and when you look at his right hand (starting @ 4:11).

A real pity. I mean you can see that he is very good.

Nope nope nope nope nope.....

He's got some live version going.

I know all the notes so I can see that he does too, but just looking at his soft rasgueados (unless he's flicking them out of the fist but I don't think so) played so close to the sound hole - can't be sounding right. Plus if you look at his facial expression compared with that from Paco on the video recording you'll see who's doing all the work. If it sounded any good he would have done it solo.

Hm but when doing the picados he didnt accelerate, and as far as i know Paco always accelerates there. Maybe there is a live version where he didnt, could be. The loop here is always the same.

You're right, its not Paco playing.

But obviously, the guy sounds like complete crap.

Judging by the sound of the audio, he's also 95% deaf.

Why does he even bother setting up a mic? It sounds like complete trash.

Its also a good 25bpm slower than the real version.

Hey, that's a bit tough.

Let's give the guy a little credit. He's studied the two pieces really thoroughly and really understood the rhythm in both. He can't quite manage crispness in performance but this is not easy music.

He has played along with the recording to mimic the phrasing and dynamics at a slow speed and gradually sped it up. In the Paco he got to around 15bpm of the original and thats pretty good and represents a lot of work. The lack of crispness in the rhythm in the arpeggios gives him away but we're only human. The inability to change his sound to give the short picado bursts punch ( paco does not accelerate it's done with dynamics angle of attack and extreme ponticello - he does squeezes the first two semiquavers in the anacrusis to give him energy to really hammer the beat and ease off his attack to move back to the piece's normal dynamic) is something which applies to almost every player on the planet. The arpeggios are not rhythmical but he was excited at finishing the piece and who would'nt be.

As for playing along with the Nunez at 50 percent speed and working it up to eighty then playing along with the minimum of body movement and then speeding it up to full speed on his computer to post on utube and passing it off as his own work well.... it is a great practice technique and a good joke on some of us.

The excessive tweaking of the recording to give it enough warmth and treble to cover up his poor technique well there are a lot of recording artists doing that now and noone is complaining enough.

On a different note. While this mimicry is great I and great for study I would much rather hear people who have a genuine response to the potential of a piece for reinterpretation. Just trying to fool us that they can play like someone else is surely not such an interesting end in itself. We all play at our best when we play like ourselves. It needn't be our music but it really should be OUR performance.

I was not going to even bother listening to Barrosa, but I just did. You can hear quite clear the ORIGINAL siroco version playing when he first starts, you hear the dancer's feet from the orginal intro. And the reverb sounds similar. But yeah there are some weird parts later on. My guess is that he edited the original track, slowed it down and who knows what else, then played along. You guys think he is playing with himself dubbed twice? Could be I guess, but why have the orginal track running along too?

Regardless, this guy is not playing a solo for sure. Perhaps he is not trying to "trick" anybody but just showing his progress as a student? For the record, it is best to not play along with a recording or teacher, but let your mistakes be heard so you can correct them yourself.

Great ear training though if your ear is already working well but certainly not a balanced practice regime on it's own.

I find this strange, I mean I have never even spliced my own stuff just so I can make a song out of it. In playing classical I learned that if you screw up you have another take. So if you can't play it all the way through dont post it.

I can't imagine recording to some one elses recording, it is so fake and lame.

Well, i think all of you are somehow right. I also agree with Guitarbuddha at many points.

These 2 pieces are very difficult (even when we only take the left hand and forget the right hand).
So i am still impressed, even after knowing that he played a long with a rec.

What dissapoints me, is just the fact that such an obviously good guitarist is trying too fool people.

He should have mentioned the fact that he was playing along with a recording to avoid misunderstandings
unless it is really a joke as Guitarbuddha mentioned.

There was another guy who did the same thing with a Gerardo rumba ("Isa"),
which somebody posted here about 2 months ago.

Same thing. He had it down pretty good, but the Gerardo track was
so loud, you couldnt really hear what the guy actually sounded like.

The thing that sorta bugs me, is most average joe's on youtube, are
completely fooled, and worship these guys. They have no idea what
they're actually hearing.
And that's pretty F'd up in my opinion, but hey, whaddaya gonna do.

If you try to call them out on the youtube comments area, you'll only get blasted
for it.
You would get somewhere along the lines of = "hey, screw you man!! he's not playing with a record! You're just jealous!
lets see YOU play it!! "

So you just roll your eyes and let it go.

God i hate people sometimes.
