What surprises me is how the band can keep a straight and serious face. This is probably why they just keep looking down.

I'm again proud of my nationality...

But before you get any ideas, they are not doing it seriously.
This was recorded 30 years ago but it didn't receive much admiration back then.
Now when youtube etc. came, someone decided to dig up this....... thing

I dont know but i love finland, i truly belive they are one of my most favourite countryes in the world, heres some of the reasons why :

- 3 of the most entertaining music videos i have ever seen were from Finland

- They never tryied to invade another country and rule the world
- They never beat romania at soccer

theres more reasons just cant think of any , acctualy i wanna use this thread to learn more about finland, when i come back i am gonna read wikipedia.

Today is your day FINLAND !! I wanna celebrate finland, i wanna know the movie stars, i wanna know the music stars, i wanna know the history, i wanna read all about finland today, when i get back from class.
Niklas feel free to jump in with litlle known facts about finland.

Ole!
Hey what are these other music videos you mention Flo? Or do I really want to know...

is this normal in finland?

No . It's meant as a joke.

Haha. As someone from Finland I'm always honoured to hear someone mention our little country that nobody seems to know about . I guess there is a reason why: we have only produced like 3 bands that ever made it on the world market, our only realy successfull athlete is a F1 driver (Kimi Räikkönen) and we always lose in icehockey to Canada, Sweden (Henrik ) etc...
And nobody wants to come here either because in the winter it's ****** freezing cold and we only get 4-5 hours of daylight (no daylight for about 2 months in Lapland high in the north). I have no idea what my ancestors were thinking about when they came here the first time.
And we also have a language that is almost impossible to learn. It also makes German and Dutch people laugh for some reason....

So the truth is that we don't go around singing a Finnish version of "YMCA" with tiny shorts in our streets...

Niklas

Hello Niklas I've been to Finland twice and I loved it, even in the winter. I took the overnight boat across from Sweden. During the night you can hear the boat breaking through the ice which is quite scary because you keep thinking about the Titanic! But in the morning you go outside and the boat is floating through loads of tiny islands, with snow covered trees, until you reach Helsinki. It's magical!

The boat ride is nice . The view comming into Helsinki is something else.

Don't remind me

Now that I think about it, we don't have any movie stars that would be known outside Finland. We do have Renny Harlin ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001317/ ) who directed the Die Hard 2 movie .
Only 3 notable bands that have made it big (note that they all play rock/metal):
Nightwish -
The Rasmus -
HIM -
Personally i don't realy listen to any of their music but they are kind of the only musicians that are well known around the world so i need to be proud
There are also some heavy metal bands that are aparently quite well known amongst fans of that kind of music. Maybe Gabe would know?

sEE, i knew i loved Finland !!

quote:

Finland is eleventh on the United Nations' Human Development Index[3] and ranked as the sixth happiest nation in the world.[4] According to the World Audit Democracy profile, Finland is the freest nation in the world in terms of civil liberties, freedom of the press, low corruption levels and political rights.[5] Finland is rated the sixth most peaceful country in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit,[6] and since 1945, Finland has been at peace, adopting neutrality in wartime

theres some things to be proud off, more than movie stars or bands

OHh and Nokia is finish i didnt realise ! i love this wikepidia

quote:

Finnish nationalism based on the Kalevala spread, and Jean Sibelius became famous for his vocal symphony Kullervo

I gues thats what the notation program is named after Sibelius

Finland won the Eurovision Song contest in 2006 with a metal band called Lordi:

"The monstrous looking band have been the talk of the contest since they were first chosen to represent Finland. While there was controversy and some displeasure on home turf, the rest of Europe have taken the Hard Rockers to their hearts and voted them way ahead of the rest despite the usual collusive voting from Eastern European nations."

Pretty looking guys no?

Oh I forgot all about Lordi!! (Lordi = Lord in Finnish... basically you can get almost any English word to sound Finnish by putting an "i" in the end of it)
Their tunes are rather catchy...

Here is them playing in the Eurovisions:

And Nokia! Everyone thinks it's Japanese
