Guitar classes - How much do you pay ?

I'd be interested to know what the going rate is wherever you are, and if its for guitar classes or specifically flamenco guitar. Here in Granada prices seem to vary from as little as 25 euros to 100 euros for a private class.

Any comments welcome,

Gracias

Kate

Well Kate,
I doubt if anybody here would give even Pop guitar lessons for less than £20 an hour!
Jazz, Specialist Stuff, including Flamenco, I'd reckon about £30 a lesson.
Remember that one good lesson, if you are attentive, will keep you occupied for a month or more and practising each day.!

"Stop Smoking" specialists and advisors and some foot-massagers are asking £100 to £200 for a single one-hour session and offer no guarantee of their services.

As are some "Lifestyle" and "Shopping" advisors....

Not bad value IMO for a guitar lesson actually and getting the benefit of someone's experience over the years.

cheers,

Ron

As a sub-note to this..
I once had really crippling back-pain.
I went to the Doctor (a very young guy doing his pre-work stuff), who told me that he couldn't see anything wrong and thought I'd maybe strained a muscle or something and not to worry.

About a week later, when I couldn't even stand up straight without agony, I drove, doubled over to a private Oesteopath, who examined me and said no problem, there was a simple"misalignment" in my spine that he could fix.
He proceeded to pummel me and stretch me for 10 minutes and then charged me £35, saying that if there were any more problems, then to come back next week and he'd give me another treatment at £35.

Anyway...I still woke up in agony....

I ended up going to the Doctor again and insisted on seeing a Senior Member of the practice.

He was a bit wary about it all and referred me to the City Hospital.

The X-Rays revealled that I had a large and growing cyst in my back that I'd got from a skelf of wood while crawling around my loft, laying insulating foam.

I had to go in and have a surgical operation to remove it.

The Hospital Doctor said later when I woke up, that if had it burst, I'd probably have gotten Septecimia and maybe died....

The message....

Be wary of "experts"! .... (IMO! )

cheers,

Ron

Yeah, I pay 30 portraits of her majesty for an hr long flamenco lesson.
I used to pay 20 Back in the early nineties but that was for rock guitar lessons.

I'm just starting to teach the guitar but am not really sure what to charge. so plenty of answers to this thread would help me out. I will not be teaching flamenco though only the other stuff.

if I go to a teacher for instance for flamenco I pay around 30 euro. but he is a professional musician. (for one hour)
I am an amateur but I give also lessons in rock and jazz guitar and I charge only 10 euro for an hour wich is very cheap I think.....

That much, Kate? An hour with Emilio (when I had them ) was only 20 euros, which is great, considering my lessons stateside are $50/hour and that's a bargain, considering what other teachers here cost.

(BTW, JDiaz and I have the same teacher so I am being kinda redundant, hehe)

I heard that Rafalín was charging that much for private classes. It's pretty obvious Emilio is not charging enough so wanted to get an idea of what other teachers were charging elsewhere.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Ooh, well, I'm not complaining, hehe. Student budget, 20 euros is plenty. And Carmen de las Cuevas, I remember, charged 18/hour for private lessons... What have you seen from other teachers? Is Rafalín or Emilio more in the norm in Granada?

Be sure to take some kind of recording device into your lessons.

Even a mediocre teacher can become better after several listenings....

What I mean is, what may seem to some to be bad teaching, may in fact be a good teacher encouraging you to listen more carefully and to try and work some things out for yourself...

Just a thought.

Good luck by the way.

45 USD here, 1 hr weekly, and well worth it. it is specifically for flamenco guitar and is a private lesson.
