Thanks for sharing, Edgar! May I ask... does this line of work pay well? And is there much demand for it? I know roughly how to do French Polishing and Oil finishes, so it might be a career worth considering.

Do you also do nitro finishes?

Thanks,

Jb

RE: Some of my refinishing projects (in reply to edgar884

I have never heard of that, I was trained in an old German style. My Dad was against French polish, we would just use multiple coats of Lacquer sanding in between with course grits until it's flat then wet sand with 1000 and then 2000 and then buff it with maguiers #9 and it looks better than even a French polish. Of course this was only table tops and Guitars.

I was trained in Old world finishing, Faux, Negative and Positive methods, Distressing dry brushing and wood repair like making a big whole in a table vanish with touch up.

Also doing conference tables, with Acrylic Urethane. Tricks with smoke and sarrana wrap. Faux stones like marble and granite and well I could go on for hours.

I't does pay well, except for my drinking and smoking habits I would probably have lots of money hahahaa. The pay by the hour can top out at like 25.00 an hour but doing touch ups and side work can bring in up to 60.00 an hour.

I won't say what I make for the sake of Pride. There is a high demand for it in Utah especially with all the well to do Mormons and Catholic trophy moms that design there own houses.

Thanks for being interested.

Amazing work Gabe - you are really skilled. And the picture of you touching up the table shows a good taste in jewellery and tattoos as well!

now that's a job i would enjoy too. making things look good is always a rewarding experience, and doing it by hand more so than photoshop. i'm currently refinishing a guitar (my first try at it, so i haven't got huge expectations) and today i put on a first coat of oil-based finish on my worn kaval flute (my acidic hands eat through everything).

on a side note, i just listened to two of your recordings i had stored away, the solea por edgar and the new sound one. interesting ideas you're working on, a lot of heavy sounding harmonies and some eastern flavour, i like that. keep at it. :)
