Encuentro bans YouTube videos

I just discovered that a lot of YouTube videos cannot be accessed anymore due to copyright claim by Encuentro Productions. One of these is my own Remache video that someone else posted. I recorded this in 2003, posted on my website in winter 2004. Gerardo's encuentro DVD came out later. He only included one falseta from the entire piece... What do you guys think?

I think they should leave your video alone.

This is just the begining. Companies like Encuentro wont be able to keep
this policing up forever.

This is the same situation the record industry found itself in when Mp3's
started to find their way around the internet.

Now its the same thing happening to video format. They can govern it for
now, but eventually, videos sites will be far too numerous to police them
for copywright breakers.
They're just gonna have to lie in their beds just like the record companies.

Total BS Grisha. I sent an email to them, very friendly like. We will see if they respond. For the record, they are in the right regarding the vids they own the rights to. But I mean if anyone learned the tune FROM ENCUENTRO and loaded it, sheeeesh, shooting yourself in the foot you know? What is the point of educational material? But as if they own Gerardo's music or something. Chicuelo too. Gerardo refuses to sell the Encuentro vid at his curso because he felt it was too high priced, a rip off. I disagree, but I think Encuentro is going overboard on YOUTUBE. I mean they STOLE FAUCHER'S work right off, mistakes and all. They need to be cool about this copyright stuff, you know?

Probably they are just mad since they don't make money off the vid series, except from people like me. They blame the internet for the fact their new digital format is not taking off. I mean, I have students looking for folks to buy the VHS versions so they can get the DVD versions. They don't offer "cheap upgrades", you have to buy the whole thing again. Now they are mad at folks for uploading bootleg concerts????

They are gonna end up with some negative feedback if they are not careful. How about USING YOUTUBE to there advantage for marketing??? There is an idea.

I agree

Encuentro is on a very negative way.

They could and should have released all their material on DVD a long time ago. To keep selling VHS only is the sure way to die.... I dont even have a VHS player.

I understand Gerardos attitude. To many young Spanish players the price of Encuentros material is high.

Another thing is that I consider Youtube material to be so low quality that I dont download the Encuentro videos anyway.

Among Encuentro series, I have three: Gerardo, Tomatito and Serrano. The best learning material is Gerardo. For the amount of materials in there, I think the price is just about acceptable, although more catered for the well-to-do. I have not managed to convert the Serrano's VHS to DVD at the moment. But I try to make a copy of the DVD for private use, as DVDs got knackered as well after a while. My Oscar Herrero's DVDs won't live for a long time though I handle them with care. Human beings are sort of living a longer life in the western world but definitely not consumer products.

I'm tempted by Merengue de Cordoba, either one or the two, but I'm not sure of the value.

You need to come out of your Cave (er... studio) more Todd, the court's indeed
do look at these things, and the free propogation of everything which is
copyrighted is not unlimited. There have been major fines, and rulings against
this stuff.

Gee, what ever did happen to Napster?

After a failed appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court, an injunction was issued on March 5, 2001 ordering Napster to prevent the trading of copyrighted music on its network.[7] In July 2001, Napster shut down its entire network in order to comply with the injunction.

OK guys Encuentro Emailed me back.

They said they never intended to have other vids bannned, only THEIR own stuff. Youtube is probably just covering their butts and sent the robot to hunt down related vids and shut them down. The thing that sucks for ENCUENTRO is they are getting their name associated with the other bans. They said they are going to try to correct this. So we shall see what happens.
