How to attract the ladies (2)

Sorry - just having a Paco moment and had to share this stunning pic. . http://www.colitafotografia.com/FOTOS/flamenco/paco2.jpg

Where to begin.. the neckchief / the bare chest / the flip flops?!?
I need to lie down!

Sorry, I know I am one of the few females on this forum but I thought the men could get some tips on how to look like a complete stud!

That's a nice picture! However, I have to disagree with you on the flip flop and the neckchief!!! Very tacky!

Wow, first I was sure not to be able to play like him
But now, thanks Romanza, I'm sure I also can't be as much "cool cat" !

It's a little "over-the-top" for me killing picture..

LOL, yes, you have to admire Paco. he makes those "comb-over" haircuts look cool, which is some achievement. But I think the secret to his success comes from not being overly concerned with his image. its his music that makes HIM cool, and not the other way round.

Not sure about the neckchief, myself. or lets just say that I wouldn't be confident enough to get away with a neckchief and bare chest. but on Paco, I'm not gonna question it...

Yes, I wasn't quite sure whether it was "camp" or "kitsch", but I suspect kitsch because what was the norm (fashion-wise) in those days, is now often considered a bit kitsch.

for me, Paco was never a fashion icon. thats part of his appeal IMO. but who knows, maybe before I was born he was a fashionista?

Oh come on guys! What does it matter? Are you not going to listen to Paco anymore?

With that said... I say ghey. Definitely.

I'll even bet there is a pink guitar and a speedo in that guitar case

It's funny that all the guys think it looks gay, but Romanza thought it looked sexy to her...Hmm..

(If you want to really know what's really going to impress the girls...always ask a guy! )

Actually,I don't think there would be anything untoward in that guitar case, save for perhaps a mitten?

cheers

Ron

I hope Romanza was being ironic and you guys make me laugh. Personally, I have no idea what the photographer was thinking - in any era.

I pop by from time to time to make sure you're all happy and not getting into too many scrapes.

I am knee deep in Andaluz village life; learning many valuable and sometimes painful lessons.

Anders just left my place after a few beers and a passionate conversation over the wood burner. Life is sweet, sometimes bitterly so, but sweet nonetheless.

Never realised I would be living the letras of flamenco rather than practising its falsetas

Welcome Sal!

Saludos

Don't worry guys - my post was definitely (meant to be!) tongue in cheek.

I think even the most ardent follower would find that pic somewhat risible!!!

So come on then, some foro members must have some equally cool pics of them in their 70s heyday??

Oh, come on, Romanza! we know you secretly like Paco in that picture!

me, I wasn't even BORN in the 70s. But there was an amusing photo of my father with an afro and a polo-neck serving punch from a bowl. I'm almost glad I miseed those days...

Come on JB, you know that in 30 years youngs will be laughing at and disgusted by our actual style... If you could show a vid from a techno party in a nightclub, or of a common day in a big company office to a 25th century boy, he will be so ashamed for his dad/mother...

I was not born in the 60-70's also but man, if you're more of an artist than a businessman, for sure these years were ten times better than the 90-00's we are living in.. For sure, if one's dream and passion is dineros, performance, consumption and seduction bulimia, techno thingies, fame & glory and selfishness, our era is the best, no question ! Culturally and humanly, well, we're a bit missing the point...

But I know it's not your thing because you've said : "But I think the secret to his success comes from not being overly concerned with his image. its his music that makes HIM cool, and not the other way round. "
Today, it seems very hard to see a young "mass artist", respected and loved by a majority, to think and act like this. Just ask Benise and Ricky Martin...

But I'm not so much into "yesterday was better" thing, because I know for sure the cycle is on. A creative era, more human-centered than $$$-centered, is awaiting us in a few years or decades... We can already feel the premises of a "neo-hippism" era if we look carefully.
Yeah !
(And we will wear destroyed i-pod on bare chest, with Sholl therapeutic shoes..damn)

Interesting theory, legrec. and you'd be correct if you said that many of my musical/cultural heroes are from an older period of time... sabicas, Mario Escudero, Carmen Amaya, etc just to name a few.

I agree, in 20 years time, our children will be frowning and wincing at photos of us in our heydays.

In fact, to be honest, I even get this feeling when I look back at certain pictures from MY youth! and I was only born in the 80s!

But I have to admit... these days its the music that dictates my preferences, not really the fashion or image.

And I'd like to think that both personally, AND as a society, our tastes develop with age.

Jb

Thing is, Romanza..is that you can never be sure with women.

In the late '70s I was at this house watching a Rod Stewart concert on the telly with a bunch of friends.
All the guys were laughing at his ridiculous leopard-skin tights stuck to his skinny legs as he pranced around like a poncey chicken...meanwhile all the girls were practically wetting themselves and calling for us to shut up.

cheers

Ron

Mention of Rod Stewart brings to mind the Kenny Everritt comedy sketch with the inflatable rear with him gradually rising to ceiling level as he strums the guitar.

I agree.. We can imagine that the process of "massification" of all artistic and cultural forms (it means for me the "mass access" to consumption and production of artistics things) gave a serious knock-down to quality and "true spirit" in these human fields such as music (and please, don't talk about "contemporain art", when I think about Jeff Koons, i want to commit an artistic murder).
Access to everyone is a necessary process.
But the price to pay is that it first means finding the "lower common denominator".
And boy, it seems we're stuck on this phase.

Yup, i've just managed to find the good "sticker" to put on Benise's music ! It was hard to tell between samba, bamba, flamenco, flamingo, misc. music, musak,... but now I know, it's "lower common denominator"
I will try to tell tomorow the guy from Virgin to add a new sticker..

For sure, the process will leads progressively, with few doubts, to an "elite-level quality for everybody". Sort of "taste develop with age" applied to society.

The problem is I feel myself I don't want just to sit along the river and wait to see the corpse of my "enemy" passing...(it's not really "an enemy"). I don't like much the "anything goes" state of mind which seems to be trendy these days. For sure I don't want to impose things to others, but there is a margin between "cultural diktat" (soviet system) and "anything goes" (US system).
Plenty of people, in charge of running the artistic business for the masses, don't really want to quit the lower common denominator and try to go next step. Obvisouly because it's easier like this. Because improving is taking a big risk...
(At the contrary of what says most economic teachers, a successfull capitalist is first a risk avoider, not a risk taker. And that's why big business kills art. They're incompatible.)

When the artist/builder/producer is "rather clearly" a cultural scammer or a lower denominate type of guy (the best clue is the well-known sentence : "hey, look, people buy my ****. So, I give it to them, what's the problem ?"), I'm pleased to flame down his work and to avoid at all cost to buy things from him.
And at the contrary, to buy and support from risk-takers and true-to-the-thing people. (yes, it excludes the conde brothers).
The elite-quality for the masses process depends partly on our behaviors (and on the flow of the river), and particularly on buying behaviors & social communication like on this foro...

I must say in flamenco it's still rather easy to discriminate, because as it's a low financial level market, most business guys won't use their precious "power of imposition" for such a poor market. I hope it'll remain for a while a "poor market", as long as it can feed the afficionados trying to make a living with it. But not to make them buy jets and yatchs.
And afficionados are still here to garbage the production of the "lower denominator guy" (I've never seen a "musical genre" where there is as much "artist flaming"...). Poor Ottmar, poor Benise. If they would have choosen R'n'B referencement, for sure there would be fan blogs all over the net for them, with "Benise, I want to marry you when I'll be old" messages, and not the 50.000 flaming messages just on foroflamenco

Sorry, I realized I was on the "RE: How to attract the ladies (2)" thread. Err... don't speak like me, first...better show your chest with neckchief...

And a gay Quartermain at that.

At that time Di meola had his white cowboy boots with his blue jeans tucked INSIDE.
