Schramm online apprentice

Hey everybody,

Has anyone purchased the cd-rom from Schramm Guitars/Online Apprentice? Looks like a lot of info, but how easy is it to follow? I think the instructions for sale are for a Hauser-style instrument. But there should be plenty of carry over with regards to guitar making in general right?

-Jake.

Hey Jake,

I took this course when I first started learning. It was good. Taught me a lot. You will have to make an investment in tools which can get pricey but if you want to learn how to build a guitar, this is the way. Other than books.

Thanks Tom. I've been looking at Schramm's websites for a while now, but didn't know anyone who had followed his instructions. I'll order the cd. I'm already a woodworker, so I hopefully won't have to spend too much on new tools. I've got a bunch of luthier-specific stuff already. The background in Schramm's workshop pics looks about as organised as my workspace and I like his seemingly low-tech approach to jigs and accessories.

Here's a few other questions, if you'll indulge me: You've built from both Barbero and Reyes plans, correct? How would you describe the sound difference between the two? Do you have a preference between them?

Thanks again,
-Jake.

Like night and day. Barbero has that "old school" sound. Very much like the sound of Sabicas guitar on Flamenco Puro. Perhaps because these plans are from that guitar. It's very punchy though and loud.

I think the Reyes is more blanced with more depth to the notes and has something the Barbero doesn't have. Can't quite pin point it though. It's a bit more melodic. A modern sound? I don't know how else to describe it.

They are BOTH great plans to work from. Can't say one is better than the other. They are just different. Keep in mind, the results of the finished guitars also has a lot to do with me. Someone elses results may vary and probably will from mine

That was taken from a live performance duo with Esteban and Florian live at the Royal Albert Hall, London. It was packed and I had a front row seat thanks to Florian hooking me up with them as well as backstage passes. Afterwards, I got to party with the two Maestro's. Esteban broke out with some magic tricks while Florian and I threw down shots of whiskey and arm wrestled. It was wild.

The avatar is the picture you can add to show underneath your name on the left hand side.

I can't see your avatar, all I see is your name. Does it have to be activated?
Sorry dumb questions, but really I don't see anything. I clicked the little man icon and it went to your profile, but no pics......... is this a joke??
