Antonio loriente

I was wondering if anyone has owned a Loriente guitar and what your impressions are have been.

my impression is that it is a beautiful guitar to look at(I have a "Carmen" model)

when my guitar arrived i was slightly disapointed with the sound quality but that soon improved by putting a set of lower tension strings on, i was also told by a luthier that they dont particulaly suit a low action, as i will get a lot of string buzz as the neck is very straight,

my only point of refrence is my Almera Spanish classical which has a low action i can use a capo easily with no string buzz,
iv heard a bit of a buzz on a flamenco guitar is not a BAD thing, which i find strange.

as you may be able to tell i am new to the neuances of Flamenco guitars (and playing for that matter)

i would be intrested to hear from other owners to find out what there prefrences are regards setup and strings used.

I take it from the fact that no one has replyed to my post that none of you own A lauriente guitar, or know anything about them, which i find kind of strange, as they are sold in the same outlets as other hand made flamenco guitars, though i am aware that they are somewhat cheaper than the usual £3000 or more for a completely hand built guitar, but you can only buy what you can afford.

they are sold as concert instruments.

Hey Comus,

These guitars are the product of the owner of GSI. They are made for them by a factory according to their specs. I've never played one but I hear it's a great guitar for the money. Too many people get turn off to the fact that a guitar is from a factory. If it plays great, looks great and sounds great, does it matter where it's from or who makes it? I'm sure yours is nice. It's amazing what a good set of strings can do for a guitar.

who is GSI?
i was under the impression that Antonio loriente was the guy who made them(or designed them) i know there not completely hand built, so are you saying they are built by hand but on a larger scale than a cottage industry, and are they made in spain? a luthier i spoke to said they were very good value and high quality for the Price, which is about half what you would pay for a completely hand built guitar

Hi Stuart,

GSI is Guitar Salon. www.guitarsalon.com The owner, Tim Miklaucic, has these made according to his specs. Antonio Loriente is not a luthier but if I remember correctly, the two names are tied into Tim's family somehow.

GSI does not try to cover this up or hide this fact. If you ask Tim he'll tell you the whole story. These are made in Spain and very good for the money. That's why I said don't get too caught up in names. If you like this guitar then it's a keeper. It's all that matters.

Thanks for the info Tom, Im a little wiser now

the amount of money you spend on a guitar depends on many factors, does it not, if you are a proffessional musician and you make a living from it then you would not hesitate to buy the best guitar for the Job, if you are famous, either someone gives you a ludicrously expensive guitar, or you can afford to spend around $10000 for a guitar.
In england i think most people would pay £3000 for a quality hand built flamenco guitar, i fall into the bracket of enthusiastic ameture

so for me, even that amount is way to expensive, so i have bought the best that i can afford.

Hi comus. What did you end up buying? a Loriente? All you can do is buy the best guitar you can with the money you have to spend. However, that doesn't mean if you have say 5000 to spend you should buy a 5000 guitar. All you need is something your happy with. Something that gives you what you want. Regardless of price. So many great guitars out there. It's not easy buying a guitar these days.
