Paco Tutorial 9…suggestions?

I usually start thinking about what to do for the Paco tutorials in February that I do every year. Considering what I have done already, and what is available on YouTube already, I am at a loss as to what to do next. So I am open to suggestions. We have already done lots of bulerias (1,2,3,4), trio stuff (5,8), guajiras (6) and fandango (7). So give me some ideas so I can work on it.

RE: Paco Tutorial 9…suggestions? (in reply to Ricardo

So, ihmo, I am thinking along the lines of something crazy challenging, like for example falsetas from La Cañada or Volar or Antonia, with usual analysis of harmonies etc.

Another thing I think would be cool is something from live recordings, either just a mix of falsetas as Paco plays them (for example the beginning of tangos from 1996 Jazztage, which is basically a mix of La Cañada falsetas followed by a really cool cante acompañamiento (gitana mia yo voy amarte lerelere...) and later Me Regale falsetas), or some solos that never ended on his own albums (ends of both versions of rondeñas, some bulerias falsetas from Camaron/Duquende albums, rumba impros).

At the end, when I look at your tutorials, it's not just about learning to play falsetas, it's also about digging into what made Paco so great. Questions like, why is this difficult to play? What novelty is in this falseta/idea? Why is this different than other players/musicians? ... small and big details that make Paco a genius...there is a bit of that in all your tutorials, which is awesome for me...(an example, the analysis of two Compadres falsetas was beautiful)

Another idea for tutorials, I think every Pacos album has at least one falseta/idea that appears on two tracks (I remember one from Cositas Buenas and one from Luzia now, or at least it seems to me as the same idea, but probably there is more), so it would be interesting to dig and analyse those.

Paco converted his falsetas to different keys quite often (A to C# most frequently). I would love to see you playing one of the originals and one of the evolutions of those. Piñonate falseta jumps into mind, as well as stuff from Soniquete.

Casilda from Siroco or Peroche from Live in America 1993 .

Your tutorials are great maestro! I have promised myself to watch them thoroughly when my son grows older as he was born in 2014, the year the maestro passed, so he is just 8 with lots of things to take care. Love them all but I think I will be doing the Chiquito first when the time is right. Thank you for your great efforts, sharing and contributions to make us all fall a little more in love with flamenco.

Solea or Siguiryas would be great particularly if you broke down the timing…. Like that discussion we had over the siguiryas intro with Camarón. Something cante accompaniment related would be awesome too.

Cheers

Thanks guys! So Paco did not record a lot of siguiriyas, so also the suggestion of comparing falsetas in different keys, etc., what I will do is dive into some old siguiriyas and couple it with something from Luzia. Got to get to work cuz I haven’t played those.

I have already started looking at siguiriyas. I did not learn to play El Dengue, however, I did mark up the score already….just in case one day I need to work on it. I think Cardeosa is for only a small group of guitar Trio nerds that might care about it. One day I will do a guitar Trio tutorial with a bunch of stuff like that.

This is like a masterclass in siguiriyas - one of my favorites

Personally I'd be more interested in dissecting the different compas variations than a more harmonically complex falseta
