All I know is it plays and sounds really lovely, I love this guitar. Playing my other one feels weird now, even though its a very nice instrument. I'm so grateful to RobJe for the privilege.

Also, the guitar is 34 years old and the aroma from the soundhole is still amazing, intoxicating!

Here is the information Rob sent me before I visited him.

Finished in pale amber coloured French polish

How you getting on with pegs? I love the look of pegheads but think I'd struggle with the tuning so would have to get mechanical ones fitted. Might be an urban myth though?

My first time with real pegs, they are Wittner on my other guitar. I like the look and feel of pegheads too. The Wittners work perfectly, but they don't look or feel anywhere near as romantic.

Yes they are a little bit fiddly, but as the strings are settling in it's easy enough. Easier to detune a touch, then tune up a little above pitch and stretch the string to get it down to pitch. Kind of pressing the peg in as you do it, sometimes with your right hand on or near the headstock for some resistance.

Silddx, congrats on a beautiful instument. Your lucky you found a great guitar so quickly, some guys look for a year. I totally appreciate your liking the old wood aroma. I stopped practicing flamenco after a tendenitis issue for almost 2 years. I took the guitar out after that ( Yamaha 172SF) to clean up for sale, but the wood smell seduced me into playing again. I just learned how to stretch the old forearms. My student Navarro smells even better.

The peg look is great, and after recently buying a Turkish oud with 11 pegs, I think I'm getting pretty good at keeping it in tune. Changing strings the 1st time took 2 hrs though.😵

Sorry for long rant...

Thank you, Dave! I'm glad you're playing again, injuries are such a damn nuisance. I'm very careful these days, my tutor has been brilliant at getting me to relax and use minimal physical effort with the correct techniques.

Oud is a beautiful instrument.

I lasted a year with wooden pegs before I gave them up for Wittners. Regarding the "look", mostly I am not looking at the headstock when I'm playing, and noone else can tell the difference from more than a foot or so away... I could never get the hang of needing to use two hands to tune (one to turn and push the peg and one to hold the head) while trying to hold a tuning fork... I will take playing in tune over the "romance" of knowing what the pegs are made of any day!

In fact, the only reason I went for Wittner mechanical pegs over machine heads is that, although the Wittners are heavier than wooden pegs, they were half the weight of machines, and needed less work to convert the guitar.
