help identify headstock

Does anyone know who this maker is? There's no label inside the guitar.

Looks very similar to a Ramirez headstock. What does the rosette look like? Has the label been removed?

No label copy of Ramirez. I have seen a couple around. Not sure who exactly was doing this, but I have a Nagoya that is exactly like the Ramirez 1a I used to own (in fact I always liked the Nagoya much better. It even sounds like the Ramirez, with only a slight inferior treble tone). I suspect these are also from Japan and the labels get removed in order for second hand owner to try to pass them off as top models from Madrid. In Ramirez III’s book he described the Japanese copies he saw…He says in order to study his design they took one of his guitar and sawed it in half. They copied the bracing style and everything internal. He claims they didn’t understand the “secret”, which he seems to think was based on physics and experience. IMO they actually did a decent job replicating the sound and feel.

I should have mentioned the history of this guitar. I acquired this guitar in the mid 90s from my flamenco teacher who said Sabicas owned it. The two of them knew each other and met up frequently in NY City. I sold this to a friend a decade later but we lost touch for many years and reconnected recently. The guitar is pretty beat up but sounds really great. Next time I visit him I'll take some more pics.

Just remembered I did look on the inside for stamps or any other markings and I did see numbers stamped on the inside heel (i think that's what you call it). it said 74 dash followed by 3 numbers. Could 74 be the year it was made?

If you post the picture of the rosette or the inner heel with the numbers we will tell you if that is a Rioyi Matsuoka guitar or a Ramirez. Never seen pegs on a Matsuoka though.
