RE: Antonio Rey guitar is it a safe ... (in reply to Guest

I would be a little more cautious myself too. How much do they ask for it? And buy without even seeing it? Nope. Deal breaker.

In Spain you have to be careful even if you see the guitar yourself, they sometimes cover the label inside with false labels etc. I would go to a trusty retailer like flamencoguitarsforsale or mundo-flamenco or la sonanta. To all these you can also get your money back if you are unsatisfied.

HSL are great guitars, I own one. 1F Arce, it was $1500 back in 2005. At the time Ricardo Sanchis (their dad) built a special handmade model for $4000, and it was not a lot better. They build a special one for Antonio, I assume, so he can pocket some cash on his own name. Nothing wrong with that, but why not just get a regular HSL guitar? If it is the looks and feel you are after (I am certain whatever Antonio made them change it was only looks), then call the number on the top left and tell them what ever you want, they will make it send from the shop I am sure.

I second what Ricardo said.

I bought mine back in 2009 directly from their workshop after trying a few. I asked David (one of the brothers) to lower the action on the one that I chose and they did it there and then. I had a nice long chat with the father himself (interpreted by one of the sons).
Every single HSL that I've seen has been consistently good.

Why would you want to pay extra just because it has Antonio Ray's name somewhere?!

Good luck,
A

Maybe you tried the one they wanted to get rid of. In a video, a famous classical guitarist mentioned some luthier wants to keep his best guitar.
