Questions about Conde Media Luna

Today I bought my first Flamenco guitar.

Currently I am on holiday in the south of Spain, also visiting some friends there.
One of those friends introduced me to a fellow in Sevilla who owns this big private guitar collection.
He is selling some of these instruments, some of them are Conde’s.

I played some of his guitars, and one Conde totally blew me away.
I had some kind of connection with that instrument, and (I really didn’t expect to buy a guitar on my holiday) I asked him if that one was for sale.
It kind of was…

Too make a long story short; I got a great deal (for what I know about flamenco guitars) and I bought that guitar.
It’s a Hermanos Conde Media Luna Negra 2002, in the best shape you can think of, very well treated and a fantastic sound.

I’m not a Conde expert at all, of course I know the brand, the history, the fact that the two living brothers nowadays are making guitars separately, but I want some more information about this particular model.

The seller told me it’s a 1a Media Luna’ from 2002. The label indeed says 2002.
But I can’t find that much information when I do an internet search on ‘Conde a1’.

- Is this model stil being made? Or from when to when was it made?
- Why is there no ‘a1’ on the label?
- How can you tell an a1 from another Conde with the same headstock?

Is there some kind of website with information about all the Conde models that were made or any website that gives information about my guitar?

I’d also like to know if there is any way to find out who actually made my guitar and who’s signature is on the label, because there is a handwritten signature on it.

I really hope someone can help me.

Don’t worry about the model as it’s usually not mentioned in the label.
If your guitar is signed then is a 1st class Conde aka 1a (primera) clase. First class Conde guitars bear a headstock shaped as half moon (media luna).
In this website you may find pictures of Conde throughout the years:

https://www.flamenco-guitar.net/museum/hermanos-conde/.
Basically in 2002 there used to be 3 Conde shops: one based in Calle Gravina 7, one based in Calle Felipe V and one based in Calle Atocha 53.
Each of them used to sell their own 1st class guitar.
Nowadays the shop of Gravina 7 is closed down, the shop in Atocha 53 still sells good Conde and the shop of Felipe V split in 2 shops (one run by Mariano Conde and the other one by Felipe Conde).
If you send here some pictures you can get more specific infos like what kind of rosewood has been used and some more infos about the specific maker.

Can you post some photos here of the guitar, label? If we see the guitar we can tell you more about it.

There is a long thread here with lots of Conde information.

You will never know exactly who made your Conde but don't worry about that. In 2002 the signature doesn't tell you who made it, just who was signing the label at that time, in that shop.

Media Luna seems popular. Tomatito plays it in his encuentro video.

That long Conde post is out of date.
it was extremely useful time ago, but a lot more has been written about Conde in different 3d (for instance about Felipe Conde) and many infos in the old post have been updated

What matters most is the street address and year. If the address says “Felipe V” then saying “1a” is a mistake, probably because of Ramirez that used those designations. But according to Felipe V catalogue (which is good from 1990 to 2010), you have AF25 and AF25R which are Indian and Brazilian negras. A26 is the cypress model. There is also AC23, AC23R, and AC23/R.8 which are classical guitars (last is an 8 string Brazilian). ALL of those guitars have media Luna. But there are other A models that don’t have the media Luna but are still pro level guitars. They usually priced $1000 down or so. They have the old M. Ramirez style head that Esteso used: AF24 indian negra, A27 and A28 both cypress. I have played both the AF 24 and A27 and can attest they are the same as the media Luna equivalents (meaning that silly half moon costs you $1000 or more ). All of those are purported to be built by hand in house (tons of rumors that this was impossible to achieve and thus all guitars were outsourced).

They also have EC1,2,3 classical student models and EF5N,5 and 4 flamenco student models, all which were made in Valencia at comparable prices to Sanchis etc.
