Most beautiful "intermediate&qu...

I'm sure this has come up incidentally, but may not so directly as I'm am asking here.

As a PDL 'junkie' - I've spent far too much time practicing falsetas that are either impossible to achieve or to maintain without constant practice. I'd like to learn some more pieces that are easier on both fronts. My problem is finding pieces that I find interesting that are more at the intermediate level. One thing that makes less difficult pieces sound better to my ear are the interspersed harmonies (i.e. chords) - if there are too many picado or pulgar passages that are very 'long' - to me the piece sounds less interesting.

Are there any pieces in your historic or current repertoire that you would recommend I give a listen to that meet the criteria above ? - more at the intermediate level and 'beautiful', with a good amount of harmony ?

MORAITO is the most popular guitarist due to the perceived practicality of his falsetas. He borrows much from paco but delivers a manageable version or take on it. Basically he produces very clear rhythm expressions with a bit of slower tempo.

I can’t play any flamenco “pieces” from beginning to end. I’m not sure that’s the right way to approach it to be honest. I’d rather focus on being able to play good compas and learning a handful of simple, effective falsetas for each palo. I’m more interested in accompanying cante and baile than playing solo guitar though.

I've learned - and lost, quite a few full pieces. But I have finally evolved to seeing the benefit of picking and choosing my favorite falsetas rather than learning a piece from end to end. Quite frankly, in every full pieces there are often falsetas that don't appeal to my ear anyway - and learning it fully is more of a dogmatic OCD trait that makes the learning more arduous.

Requiem and Roma by Vicente Amigo played straight after each other are my go-tos. Vicente does this himself so isn't too off-piste.

I agree it's easier than Paco's material - but playing it in time and at tempo is not so easy - granted it 'sounds' easier - until you go to play it !!!

One of our members has a signature saying "this stuff is hard" - maybe that's just a given - it's all hard, but some stuff is a lot harder than other stuff.
