Such young ones, kicking arse

They won Eurovision, though this really kicks some arse so I thank these young Italian ones for keeping the flame alight. I can teach them nothing.

Hard for me to get past the singing in Italian. In the early 80's I got a gig backing an Italian singer and we made a record and toured northern Italy. He was a published poet and people thought of him as the Italian Bob Dylan. He was a good guitarist too. The record deal fizzled after the tour and we returned to the States, put together another band, and he sang in English. The few record people who were interested said they couldn't abide his accent.....we bailed on it after doing gigs in San Francisco where only our girlfriends showed up and both took up flamenco in about 1983.

He moved to Spain. Many years later I was walking through the Venetian in Vegas and saw him in a gondolier's outfit with a pignose strapped to his waist playing guitar.....music biz is tough.

Playing rock in Italy was interesting-there were few guitarists then playing rock well but there were a few standouts like Corrado Rustici, a great fusion player.

Another guitarist I met in Oakland when I was a kid. Stef Burns. We were both rockers. We never worked together but years later I realized he had moved to Italy. He played with Huey Lewis too. He's still rocking out in Italy. When I see a vid of him playing rock with the singing in Italian it doesn't work for me.

I heard Maneskin was invited to American Music Awards. So I thought they were going to be big in the USA. But I ended up watching K-pop group BTS. They won in several categories in AMA 2021. They're trending like crazy and breaking all the records.

Well produced and written pop song.

This K-pop thing is not new to me. But I never imagined that a K-pop boyband would become a big thing in world music one day.

Even Sir Paul McCartney knows BTS.
