If it weren't for Netflix.... and .....

If it weren't for Netflix, I might actually have been able to bring some of the pieces I've worked on to performance level lol

But I do have to give Netflix some credit - because while I'm watching, I kind of like to read through the text (the notes and the rhythms - in an earlier post I was unclear people thought I just meant the notes) of some of the transcribed pieces I purchased. Those damn addictive shows leave enough room in between the dialog to allow me to do this in a reasonably productive manner....the trouble is - I never get to the computer and metronome to use my ear and learn to play along with and/or practice performing the piece.

Recently - I've broken out my Riqueni Fauche book, and started working on one of my favorite "easy, hard" pieces - Chicuelina, a modern tanguillos. The transcription seems to be really good - spot on or at least very close. At first, I really could NOT get the feel from reading the music, but after a while it started to make sense. The piece itself is really a great composition imho - it sounds relatively easy, and the melody is really easy to hum - but when you go to play it, with the timing and tempo it's not so easy. And the rhythm is really driving...

What are you working on right now, enjoying, and garnering some insights about ?

Just kidding, I suck at the recorder But I have a lot of work at the moment, so I've been playing it a bit in the evening just to have some fun and relax. It basically means that the neighbours have had to listen to sh1tty renditions of Zelda themes or simple movie themes like the last of the Mohicans over and over again But hey, it's payback. Their kid has to practice recorder for school and he sucks even more than I do

I have Netflix, Amazon and Disney but I don't watch much, nowadays.

I am still trying to make my own electric guitar. I had to start over with a different, somewhat unique body shape from an old, seasoned pine cupboard in the house.

And I figured out the router at last. Keep you posted later.

If you have a smart phone there are free apps. Just add headphones Soundbrenner metronome and Another Flamenco Compás App

Something about hearing metal being played on a woodwind sounds like Looney Tunes in the best way. She should team up with this guy...

That's hilarious! Are you a dream theater fan or is this just a random recorder virtuosity video you found?

Coincidentally, I also started "getting serious" with the recorder -- because my kids are studying it at school. I'm trying to get their enthusiasm toward playing/practicing up by showing them that it can "not suck". It's actually really fun

A - D - C - A is sandstorm. Great for practicing fast articulation

The other day I learned that you could mute the damn thing just by folding a piece of paper and sticking it in the hole on top. Our music teacher at school never told us that. He must've hated the parents or something

Yeah I like Dream Theater. I kind of dropped off after Octavarium though. Dunno why. I've listened to what they've done since then but for some reason I always go back to what they did before that. What's that thing they say? You always like most the music you listened to when you were a teen? Metropolis p.II came out when I was 14/15. And it's still my favorite album of theirs.

BTW Escribano, I'm definitely not the best judge of that kind of thing, but it looks like it's shaping up nicely to me. I like the idea of making a guitar out of repurposed wood.

You've been doing this since 2 years? You must be good at something else that makes it possible for you. If you started it from the scratch you must have discovered your hidden talent.

What about a bust of Paco?

That's a start!

This is my very first carving, I had no idea how to do a face and was really intimidated by just the thought. So you're ahead of where I was!

Nope, I can't draw for anything, really terrible, never sculpted or did anything even remotely like this

That's a great idea about Paco! Can you suggest any iconic photos of him?

I wish you could carve into one of my electric guitars. Quite a unique feature but labour intensive and expensive, no doubt. Perhaps I can commission a kind of plaque that I could incorporate?

Bear and moon is the graphic I am thinking about. Perhaps carved into a small veneer that I can put on the headstock? Would be cool in 3D as a carving. Message me here if you are interested.

Thank you both Joe and Stu!

Stu, the barbarian and orc are carved from butternut, the "Madder" Mad Hatter and buccaneer are carved in cottonwood bark, and the woman is carved from basswood.

If anyone has an idea from which era to carve Paco I'm open to suggestions

The late 70's or the 80's.

That carving is amazing, wow, congratulations!

Lately I am improving my guitar playing technique by doing technical exercises only, also improving my French and my programming skills. One thing that I also did over this winter is that I finally managed to consistently run outside (I tried a few times over the last ten years but was never able to go past one day during the whole fall/winter, couldn't stand the cold).
I've started with a couple of other ideas, but no progress there yet so not worth mentioning :)

Since four days I have a total absence of motivation to play. I don't even listen to music, and that really seldom happens. It's usually when my stress level is to high and I need quiet. But these days I feel good. So I wonder what's happening.

It's sunny here in Switzerland and the weather is starting to warm up. They opened bars and reastaurants only in the open., this monday. So I just want to be outside I guess. My goal, is to have a glass of white wine tomorrow on a nice terrasse by the lake.

But music and flamenco is like... nowhere to be seen. I'm going with the flow for once and not pushing myself.

The only cool thing that I often do in summer would be to go by the lake and play with people. That would make me happy.

Sort of. Spring is late and it's cold here in Italy. Hail and wind today, so I cannot work outside. Quite a bit of a pain.

Fluknu,
It's a a known thing. Post coved, or not post. I was ass jacked by a moose last April, couch and bed bound for many months. Dog what a fluk... Last few weeks have been tough, I'm Vmax for a couple weeks now, but like you, I'm like what now? I'm an odd case, major life change with new partner a few years ago, put away my cash cow hat for another and all the sudden its been pulled down over my eyes and holding it out for our federal gov to toss in it a few shekels. Think the maker for music, for the guitars I'm building, Flamenco, and world wide strangers on a forum here and there.

The music will come back. I promise. Revisiting Rigena Spector, I know not flamenco, this evening but fitting, her sensibility, her post Russian Jewish sensibility, she gets it but not with a guitar but a piano. She kills it. I started the day with Rosalia, did a few hours of Diago del Castor and the boss, cooked up a quick dinner, black beans garlic and some fresh eggs from our hens, killed a bottle of bad white wine, then Rigina and crushing strings following her piano best I could, after a couple years of compas and Phrygian-esc Flamenco her Lidian seemed almost childlike in its simplicity. Oh ya, the music will come back, my buddy Jonas who posts here once in a whole says take one or two day a week off, leave your guitar in the case and just live, head to that lake, have that glass of wine at the lakeside, rejoin the living...
