Thumbnail Transplant?

My thumbnail really bothers me, it’s flat in the middle and curls on the edges, difficult to play and keeps getting caught in my jackets zipper.
Does anyone else have this troublesome kind of nail?

I don’t know what to do, I’m at the end of my rope, I feel like a circus freak in public when people see my long misgrowing weird nail in the grocery store line. I hide my hand in my jacket and try to do my shopping with one arm, but I’m right handed and right arm dominant so it’s even an embarrassment to myself in those moments of self pleasuring. It’s a good thing there’s a pandemic happening because it gives me a reason to hide my face in public without being further shamed for my freakishly ugly and non alzapua responding thumbnail. I was wondering if anyone out there can relate and if maybe in a private Swiss clinic that there really is a such thing as a thumb or thumbnail transplant. The way I see it, it’s either the whole thumb needs replacing or just the nail, but as I said I need a consult with a discrete Swiss surgeon who could explain my options.

Thanks in advance for any real advice.

Ok Stephen, you deserve more then just a wack on the thumb with a single jack.

My thumb is made for free stroke which I use to great effect.

If I shape it long to engage the string for a good rest stroke it hangs up like a hay hook on the free stroke.

Filed for free stroke and I only get dull flesh playing proper Pulgar.

What's a flamingo player to do?

If I was a talented as Ramzi I could play Cotten picken rest strokes with a meat hook thumb nail on my left!

Thinking their might be a proper compromise?

I’m almost certain there’s a Swiss clinic that has created special laboratory grown thumbnails that can be transplanted. I heard about on the dark web and this clinic took genetic information from Tomatito and Gerardo Nunez and grew it with Mitochondrial DNA from wild pigs to form a more human than human new organic nail. The wild pig DNA, or so I’m told, is a contributor to the hardness of the material because using Crisper they isolated the tusk gene. They utilized the tusk gene with tomatito DNA and it’s a hard intelligent nail.

Well, for starters, stop looking down while pleasuring yourself. Freaky thumb nail or not, that's just creepy.

Next, grow your pinkie nail out so it's about twice as long as your thumb nail. That'll take the attention away from your thumb. Then buy a latex mask of Kim Jung-un and wear that whenever you go out. That'll take attention away from your hands altogether.

Alternatively you could try filing your nail with different ramps to see if anything works better, or buy some of these: https://guitarplayernails.com/guitar-player-nails-catalog-c-65/

Good advice from Pwin. I sort of share a little bit of your frustration with the thumbnail and optimal shape.

Have you seen the shape that some classical players use where it’s sort of a backwards ramp that slopes up slightly on the left side of the nail? I broken my nail last year and had to used this shape and somehow I managed to file it just right and it worked pretty darn good. Haven’t had luck reproducing it though. It likes to catch of it’s not filed correctly. Benefit is that it results in a very short looking nail. How often is the right side of the nail used, and do you need it it?

Ha hands haaa... I've got Hunter and infenstrutcure on my drinking debate bingo card so I'm really too smashed to comment bubinwrotebthe following and thought it was to stupid to send. BUT WHO CARES! (HT fifth element):

And this is what you get for shining your little pen light into the dark web. Sure it's true, pork fat rules, but only in barbecue and breakfast, not when you are playing Pulgar.

Try to keep up with the new kids and their propensity for technology: think carbon fiber amid an arimid matrix infused with polyester resin. How about a low level laser to burn off your genetically inferior keratin for starters. Then a balanced layup of biased Kevlar and Carbon sandwiching a thicker unidirectional core of carbon cooked off under 50psi in an autoclave to the appropriate curve. Now the purest might be inclined to bond said modern nail with HHG but let's get real here, it's CA all the way if you want to play today. Oh the heck with CA, what we need are two titanium threaded inserts drilled into the distal phalanx, you know so if you break one off pulling the tab from a can of quinine water, you can just unscrew the broken nail and screw in the new one. Don't laugh, you should see some of the hardware and screws in my foot...

And for heavens sake, I'm not actually watching the debate, I despise the sound of even the best politicians selling themselves.
Listening to Paqurie de Jerez whilst following along on a comment page of my favorite political blog...

I was playing along but F if I didn't break my index to the quick, undoubtedly revenge for such a senseless comment.

Olé!

This could work for you; it has for me and others. File your thumb nail back to the end of your thumb or further if needed. Get a artificial thumb nail(guitarplayernails.com), glue on with appropriate glue, cover with two coats of "silk", now nylon, coat all exterior surfaces with glue; then shape to your needs. I have used these for years without problems. Be sure to cover only about half of your natural nail to allow it to breathe. Good luck.

I want a whole new thumb with Tomatito DNA !

If Keith Richards can have all his toxic blood changed I should be able to get a choice of thumbs. This is the modern age, am I asking for too much?
