Nails Ad Nauseam

Guys,

Help me..LOL

At work my job description has sort of changed and I got stuck scanning documents. So, before I scan them I have to remove staples out of each document. I work for a law firm.

The pulling staples even with a staple puller has messed up my nails. I broke my thumb nail and my "A" finger nail. That nail in itself is so WEAK because around 10 years ago i broke it while working out and the nail shaft matrix was semi damaged. So that nail grows very THIN...

Okay, so the I was going to record a Solea and post on forum but I can't cause i am missing my thumb and "A" nail and even though I can still play those arpeggios don't sound as good without the nails.

My questions is I am getting to the point of either, 1) using Players Nails. I have heard Grisha uses them and has never looked back. 2) gel fillers...

I have tried glue and it doesn't work.....My diet is good..

I guess, I am seeking advise.....

Also, a shout out to the Great Ramzi El Rumbero....I can't think him enough for the KILLER Cordoba GK Negra he sold me...

Seriously, plays beautifully and it is EASY to play and sounds AWESOME...

Kalo I recently bought the GPN kit from stewmac and it works great. I put the first one on my thumb. A week later put one on my ring finger. They should last for many weeks if you play an hour a day it seems. They look a little bizzare but make a huge difference with what my god given nails could do. I have never tried gel. I also added glue over the fake nail tips to prolong their life.

If you are right handed, always pick staples out of papers using the left hand thumb nail. Always pick anything up off the floor, or do anything potentially damaging to your nails, with your left hand. I have very strong nails, and coat them with superglue. I have only broken one nail in about the last 20 years. I am very careful.

Can you get worker’s comp for breaking a nail on the job? Ooh right. It’s a law firm. Prob not.

And, Or, Also you can keep a pair of small needle nose pliers around for pulling staples. That’s what I would do.

UV Gel will definitely make your nails very strong. Stronger than glue.

Wise choice going with dr. Rumbero’s GK Congrats!

Hi Dave, is the GPN kit the same as the link below...I have read a statement from Grisha that he would never go back to his original nails..From what I understand from the guy who owns the sight the nails are a learning curve to put on, but once you get the hang of it, it is awesome. They are so natural and look like your nails...I am seriously considering it.

Hi Mark,

[ use a staple puller and there are tons of documents...Still my nails break because of force with the staple puller...I tried brush on nail glue, and it worked okay but still doesn't quite do the trick for me.

I guess, i will either go with UV gel, or Guitar Players Nails. I have tried gel long time ago and found it hard to file when my nails grew out. But, maybe if i do them myself, I could put a thin coat. OMG, Ramzi's guitar plays so nice, and seriously, it sound nice. I will post vids soon...i hope I can do the guitar justice the way Ramzi did on the GK

Thanks for all you replies!

Dave,

Just curious, do you put wraps over them? I heard Grisha uses the hardest pre made nails and puts wraps over them and there is also a rotary file I was told to use so there is not lip on the nail...Nothing to snag where you perform ras.

To you just pop one on and that is it? Are your pre made nails or the ones you cut yourself...There are two kinds..

Sorry for the so many questions.

Thanks,
Kalo

Hi Kalo, I only used what came in the kit. The thumb is type 1 preformed ( you still have to do some shaping) and the ring is the strip I tried cutting myself. I make them way too long and cut with a nail trimmer, and then file. Rotary might be good if you plan on doing many....the top photo is the thumb. The btm is ring. I smear layers of Krazy Glue on top of them to make them harder. This is my first attempt, so they may not look that great, but seem super durable. I like the idea of the gel, but then your nail has to be long enough in the first place which is normally a problem for me.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the pics

I was told by the owner of the site who plays classical guitar that it is a learning curb...I would get the performed nails. I think the strip would more of a learning curb...

I am torn between Gel or these Players nails. I could wait till my thumb nails grow out and my ring finger (which is the thin weird nail) that always give me grief.

Because I am pulling tons of legal documents with a stapler puller, still my nails make somewhat contact..It might be a better idea to put gel on top of my nail...I am not sure if it would make the thinner nail stronger and somewhat different shape...

Oh, the dilemma...LOL

If anyone here has used gel, i just want to know if they were easier to file when nail was growing out....

Again, Dave thanks for the pictures...

Of the three variables I mentioned (strength of natural nails, glue or other protective coating and avoiding damage to nails), I think the most important is to train yourself to use your other hand for any task that is potentially hazardous to nails.

I am right handed, so to protect the nails on my right hand I have learned to do many things left handed!

I havnt found gel to be difficult file. I just file it flush with my nail like you would with super glue. Files away same as glue. I use that diamond nail file from strings by mail.

I’m not sure if I like gel or not, personally. Ive been experimenting for about 5 months with it and the jury is still out. It’s kind of an investment to buy all the crap you need (primer, gel, UV light, and brush) just to try out. Maybe a good idea to get it done at the nail salon first. Ask for the builder gel.

I think what I will do is try Player's Nails. If Grisha loves them. Well, I believe he's tried lots of different things....

I will try it first on the bad finger where the nail is weak and thin.....

If it works good, I might just do the hole hand...

Thanks again for the replies
