Pursuing a dream, what a difference ...

Passion, dedication, discipline together with weekly lessons can help a person achieving his dream. About 14 years ago my little nephew asked his father if he could play on his piano. It was a beater piano, so no worry about scratching. Well, the kid became very interested in music, especially classical piano music. Years gone by, he now just graduated from high school and has been offered a full $58K/year scholarship from the University of Chicago to study music and history. His dream to pursue a music career came true.
This is the video when he was about 8:

Below is his virtual recital (due to Covid 19) and the last for the Levine music school in Washington DC:

I just wonder what milestone he will achieve 10 years from now.

And possibly a spoonful of talent that I don't have

But beautiful and inspirational. May he continue to give pleasure for many more years to come. Cheers

Wow, many congratulations to him. I have just gone back to the piano but could not even dream of playing like your nephew.

Fascinating music.

Congratulations to your nephew, and to the entire family for encouraging him to pursue his dream and talent.

Updates: Last month, he entered the XI Concurso de Composicion de Piano Fidelio, held twice annually and organized by Antonio Ruiz. There were participants from 24 countries. He submitted a composition for the piano right hand (of course played by the right hand only). He made it to the third round - not too bad for a seventeen year old in his first try. It is a large .wav file but I do not know how to post it here.
