buying online???

howdy everyone,

has anyone had experience with GSI, zavalettas or otherwise purchased a guitar online? i absolutely cannot image purchasing a guitar unplayed and know about GSIs and zavalettas 48 hour approval period but even that seems like a short amount of time.

maybe not. would love to hear your experiences, good or bad.

thanks!

They are both exceptional dealers with the best of reputations. I have purchased a guitar from Dr James at Zavalettas and was very pleased. 48 hrs should be enough, but they will likely work with you if you call them. I have heard Dr. James will talk your ear off. His personal collection of guitars is word-class.

Personally, if you really want to talk to a US dealer that really knows flamenco guitars, you want to contact Tom at Lafalseta.com. You won't find anyone any better.

Dr. Greenberg of Zavalettas arranged for a guitar to be made for me in Spain ( I live in the U.K. and my Spanish is not at all good). Very friendly and helpful man.

thanks for the responses. i guess i'm just a bit skittish throwing down a few grand on something unseen and unplayed. i've made major and expensive purchases online but a guitar is such a different beast.

guess i'm just going to have to suck it up and throw down some $$$!

I bought a guitar from LaFalseta, also from a well-known private dealer here on the forum. I also bought a Gipsy Kings model guitar recently for live gigs. All happened to be positive experiences. I do think that guitars are personal things, but sometimes you just have to try them out and move them if you don't like them. It's a good idea to buy a well-known brand for that reason. I knew that the Gipsy Kings model would be easy to sell if it didn't work out.

I own three guitars and each one feels and sounds completely different. Basically, I have to make adjustments--play lighter or harder, for example, with each one. But it's just part of being a guitarist. I think that each guitar you learn how to play helps you become a better guitarist. I have a friend who is so picky about his guitars that he has been complaining about using the same one for 5 years or more.

I think it's better to take a chance of hitting a home run online than just going to Guitar Center and getting some plywood that they happen to have in stock.
