Vicente Amigo El Pele 1990

Here is an excellent concert I came across, Vicente is playing some interesting variations compared to his typical stuff, and a very aggressive attack throughout. El Pele as always in top form. Siguiriyas is especially interesting

Thanks for posting. I'll watch the whole thing later but I'm looking forward to the siguiriyas. The one from their album always tripped me up. Very cool stuff.

Also, sound quality is pretty good here. I saw him in Boston a couple of years ago and the mic was clipping like crazy.

1990 Vicente says “ If I’m this good now I hope that in 25 years I can play Roma!”

Vicente Amigo does a lot of unneccesary upper body movements while playing. What do you guys think? Is it normal?

Really hard to keep watching him play. Makes me want to say dude sit still and play that damn thing.

Sitting still for more than a minute is not good for your body. You need to move around as much as possible or you will pay for it in the long term. Especially moving the head and neck as he does will save your back a lot of grief.

how so?

I understand Vicente had to have major back surgery a few years back, so it doesn't seem to have done him a lot of good.

Indeed I’m sure he already had pain as a young person and if he was doing the stiff man seated all the time thing he would have needed surgery earlier or maybe stopped playing altogether. All I know is when I was young (20’s) I first felt fatigue from being on stage or practice I adopted that moving around like he does and more (crossing different leg or cross un cross mid song etc), and I’m going on 20 years from then with no problems at this point.

From what I know, once you sit in the optimal position where your back is straight, sitting still in that position a little bit longer will not harm you. Assuming you sit on a hard chair with a slight cushion. The chair must be also level and doesn't have a slope.

If Vicente had back pain at a young age, he must have spent a lot of time sitting with poor posture when practicing as a kid.

Another thing is his right shoulder moves a lot and is raised most of the time. I do believe the right arm should be rested on the guitar mostly except when you have to play picado runs.

Sure.... Vicente has got it all wrong. Don’t ever watch him again, it’s just horrible the things you might pick up from him.

And the sound he makes out of the guitar... just horrible. And the singing of the guitar as he plays... speaks directly to the heart and soul... very dangerous. After listening to him I cannot keep playing mindlessly and un-inspiringly on my guitar.

Anyway, I am sorry. Ricardo thank you for posting Vicente in this great video. He is an inspiration to any kind of guitarist and musician.

Vicente shifts his guitar too much. If the guitar had a brain, the poor guitar could get a brain concussion.

If I were Vicente and played this good, I would be smiling almost all the time. A little smile while playing might have been good for him. I can understand, when accompanying Sigiuriya, a smiling guitarist would look silly, but I mean during a solo performance one should be throwing the audience a little smile once or twice. Don't you think so?

What a haircut and shoes, Jeez....
Always liked Vicente and I’d say today he plays even better.
