In flamenco it is not what makes Paco de Lucia great, not anymore. The question is what makes great Paco de Lucia.

IMO it's not so much about what makes PdL great... but what makes PdL unique...

PdL is unique because without knowing anything about music harmony or even theory, he created something totally relevant and revolutionary in flamenco.

As to the guitar itself, well he was just out of this world. I remember a concert in Brussels (2010-12) where after a few minutes, noticing that some front seats had been left empty, I managed to approach the stage as close to him as a few meters. That was enough to study his technique and I can say I have never seen a player get so much of a guitar as him.

Out of this world really...
