I have been a musician my whole life -- and I work at Apple, so I'm used to just thinking of how things are made in manufacturing plants, or at least on an assembly line, etc. Whether it be instruments, digital instruments, computer hardware, etc.

I just watched big chunks of the documentary - it really impacted me. I have never considered the personal care and touch that can go into making an instrument.

As an example, even just the mundane aspect of smoothening/shaping it out at around 39:15 in the first half video...so many little details.

Like Anders says at the end, it's a personal product, not an industry product.

Love it -- thank you for putting it out there :)

On a side note, I loved it that the drill press looked exactly like mine.

I have watched this documentary in full twice, there is something so satisfying and inspiring about it. Also it gives you a whole new appreciation of just how much effort and passion goes into a hand made guitar, I would love to see more luthiers feature in films like this it is such a unique insight.

What about downloading the Spanish subs and making a srt subtitles file from them. Other platforms should allow for a subtitles file to be appended (usually an srt file).

You may have even more options as the youtube account holder, but after turning Spanish subs on, I can open a little menu (if you click on the three dots to the right of the "SAVE" option below the video on youtube) and choose "Open transcript" - a relatively new option, it opens a side Transcript window with the entire contents of the Spanish translation. It can be copied and pasted into a (free) subtitle software to add subtitle durations to the time stamps, and other slight modifications if needed, and to save it to an srt subtitles file.

I can try it in a day or two myself - I think it is doable to produce a proper srt file from what I see in the Transcript window. Or you may have more options available and be able to produce it directly from YouTube. However, I am just guessing on what can work on other platforms; if the reality is different, maybe this is not a fruitful course of action.

Watching Anders work explained so many things about him and his art that words here on the foro don't adequately convey.

That is one-at-a-time guitar making.
I also love pegs and that guitar is utterly beautiful, and even more so from watching the process.

This is all new to me. I am an older guy just learning to play the guitar for the first time.

I saw these two videos and have gained a vast respect and understanding for Anders and the other Luthiers.

One thing, I wonder how much time it took from start to finish to complete that beautiful guitar.

Well, I am going to have to start saving my pennies to commission Anders to create a guitar for me after I learn to play decently!

This is what's happened to me. However, I always arrive at the party too late. I would have loved to save up and commission Anders for a guitar similar to the one he made in the doco, but he no longer makes them so I have to look at the used market, if any guitars are available.

Inspirational film, as observed previously, a film about a sculptor, artist, who uses and is able to control, wood, as the ultimate artisan that he is.

I'd love to know what he's doing now, but I gather he is working quietly and privately these days.
