De Oro Guitar support/ suction cups ...

Hey ya'll,
Anybody using the De oro guitar support?

The suction cups are flattening out over time and will soon not work
at all. I can barely get them to stick for more than a few minutes at a time.

Anybody know a fix?

TK

I have one and would like to use it, but for me the suction cups leaves marks on my guitar.

Have you tried cleaning the surface with a bit of alcohol?

Have you tried asking the people at De Oro if they can provide replacement cups?

If the surface is french polished than the alcohol will act as a solvent surely? (that's how french polish arrives in a bottle - shellac in alcohol) I'd guess that the surface will become gummy and thin and will have to dry out again before you could fix anything.

Why not clean it with acetone? I don't think that is a solvent for shellac but maybe a luthier could confirm?

Todd, just order a couple of FiniSHIELD's from Diego, and have him send you some replacement cups. That's what I did per his recommendation, and I'm good. Hope this helps...

You could try changing the suction cups or buying another type of support like this for example from finland, you can contact them at liikanenguitars.com or through this link:

By the way did the injury get better and can you play guitar well again?

looks like an Andalusian Guitar.

Funny story some years ago , some guys meet up the prof guitar seller in an andaluzia town to check those guitars.
The price was like 5.000 euros and the potencial buyer didnt compromisse right away, so the seller taked the lads to some drinks later morning or after lunch cant quite remember and paid for them.
After the drinkin session the seller made another proposal , 50% off , so he bought the guitar , very similiar as the video that you showed.
Other lad that was with the buyer , told me that the sound was ok but not a 5.000 euros sound or even with the 50% off.
After few months he sold the guitar .

Stu - yeah man, I am indeed - LOL

Interesting story, Manitas! And cool play on words with your foro name :)

Ricardo - I got one second-hand on Reverb out of curiosity. I'm having a lot of fun with it, as I do with all guitars. I'm sure I'll play it for a couple of years, then move on to try another instrument, as has been the pattern of late.
