Fresh filed nails sound thin? 
Hey guys. Finally finding a nail shape that works for me. My i finger has more of a "/" shape. M finger more "-" flat. A finger more "\"

Anyways when I file my nails and play right away I get a thin sound. Do you file them flat in the front or do you file a ramp/bevel?

You need to buff them on something.... extreme fine sand paper, or just do some arps on the bass strings for a minute or two, or ill just scratch them on my denim jeans for a minute.

Revlon makes a nail buffer with four different surfaces. It costs about $3.50. I used to get them at the local drug store, but started buying them online when the drug store stopped stocking them.

I shape the nails with an emeryl file. It is small mineral crystals glued to a metal piece. It leaves the nails pretty rough, but using the Revlon buffer produces a silky smooth nail edge. You start from the coarsest buffing surface, work through the finer ones to the smoothest.

It takes me about 15 minutes from start to finish.

I'm sure there are other ways that work just as well.
