A hello from Colorado

I am Tim from Colorado and am enjoying the forum. It seems like a great community so far! I am slowly learning guitar, though slow may be an overstatement. I also have a keen interest in building my own guitar and am in the information gathering stage. I have a million questions but I'll stick to just one. Here is the setup: Most luthiers use a router for the purlfing and binding grooves. I watched a video (Hermanos Conde?) where the man used a sharp blade stuck to a jig which he pressed into and around the guitar's edge. He moved the tool and not the guitar. He then glued the binding and used rope to press it firmly on. First, I cannot find that video again. Second, does any one have experience with a tool of that type? Third, should these questions be posed in the Luthier section?

Thanks and nice to meet you all.
Tim

Welcome Tim. Good luck with the guitar but having done both playing and trying to build, I wouldn't advise building, aside from plain curiosity.

If you do then use a handheld mini-router, like a Dremel with a suitable attachment. You move the router, not the guitar and use rope or rubber to hold in place.
