Graciliano Perez Guitars

Hey guys, just wanted to know if Graciliano Guitars are any good? yeah I am aware that Vicente Amgio ( who is one of the greats that endorses Graciliano ) has bought many of his flamencos and has used them to recored many songs in his last Album Roma

However I have had a friend tell me that he purchased a Graciliano guitar a while ago but had to ship it back to Spain for a " Refret Job" and was very disappointed. His guitar shop has grown enormously through the years and does not build any of the guitars now mostly by himself but instead has a lot of help making them. Most of these are from inexperiences apprentices gluing, doing fret work, sanding etc.... but he does over see this process. Anyways guys just want to know your opinions on this maker and if the guitar are "Worth it" if you know what i mean. Not trying to spread bad gossip about a luthier as i have heard that these guitars are really good and have seen many youtube videos with some big flamenco names playing these instruments and they sound amazing. Give me your thoughts k guys? Thanks

I’m interested as well on the answers you will get. I just tried one in life and I was also in a hurry.
I can share that the guitar sounded very good: the trebles were quite dry, and the overall tone was open and powerful.
The woods were of good quality, but some details told me the guitar was assembled in a hurry or without too much care for the details (the rosette tails were not perfectly aligned, the headstock slots and holes were not perfectly simmetrical the purflings showed some gaps etc.).
My 2 cents are that if you are fussy about aesthetics, better to look for a different maker, if you care just of sound and playability they are a good deal for money. Many pro-players are fond of Graciliano guitars ( I think of Kai Narezo for instance) and there must be a reason for that.
I’m curious to know if someone could compare the guitars of Graciliano with those of Jose Rodriguez, another maker from Córdoba. Both these makers bought woods from Miguel Rodriguez and make use of his plantilla and bracing.

I definitely did notice that the "details" are not as good as other guitars. The Rosette on some of his models are very simple and not too much design going on, does seem like a fast build. I am not sure how many guitars he is building a month to a year but seems like he is indeed putting out a lot. I did hear from others that the quality is not on par with other makers and yes the details are not there. I did also hear the his woods are obtained from the famous "Manuel Reyes" but not 100% on this.

My friend who owned one of Graciliano's guitar did send it back for a refret job. I believe he ended up selling his Graciliano and getting himself a Conde Hermanos FC28. He informed me that the details on his FC28 are amazing, you could get a magnifying glass and look at every detail on the instrument. Conde's guitar are still going on strong, always hear good things about these.

I recently watched an interview with Graciliano where he talked a little about working with Vicente and taking on the challenge of building his ideal guitar. Vicente likes a very low action of 1.5-1.9mm at the 12th fret and a specific tension for the right hand, all the while minimizing fret buzz and achieving desired sound/harmonics that Vicente wanted. Who doesn’t want that! Graciliano said it was a tall challenge and took a couple of years working with Vicente to achieve the guitar, remaking Soleras etc. But he also said that Vicente ofcourse knows the exact amount of minimal pressure needed to fret a note and not bottom out the guitar. He admits that Vicente posting those videos on YouTube exploded his business.

I thought it was interesting that Graciliano apparently used to be an Oncologist who quit the medical field to make guitars.

Google maps shows a bunch of pictures of his inside new larger shop too.

Going to Vicente’s concert as we speak (in Seattle). Whether he plays a Navarro or Perez...it will be amazing. Saw him 16 years ago, so this will be amazing since he has more material and I am more of a flamenco freak than back then.

So guys, all this talk about Graciliano guitars and guess what? i just got in a Graciliano guitar that i had bought about a week ago. Its the EXACT same guitar as in this video

It used to belong to a Fareed Haque? a famous jazz / classical player in Chicago area. Anyways guys i am BLOWN AWAY by this guitar. The Bass!!! my flamenco brothers.....THE BASS!!! and the Tables are perfect. I have had many instruments that don't come close to this in terms of Bass, this guitar can easily be used as a classical guitar and flamenco also. Very Fast and sounds really clean
