Bienal ticket scalpers?

I'll be in Sevilla September 7-21 (Larisa has to head back home for work.) On the official site for the Bienal, most of the events I would like to attend are already sold out. Anyone have experience with scalpers?

Years ago I never bought a ticket for a corrida in Madrid from the taquilla, or from any official site, I just showed up at the plaza in front of Las Ventas, and bought from the scalpers. There was a lot of competition, so the prices weren't outrageous.

Any chance of deals like this for the Bienal?

Thanks,

RNJ

Richard, no experience with scalpers in Sevilla, but a question for you. Is Paco Cepero listed on any of the programs, either as a soloist or as an accompanist? Cepero is the one artist I could get excited about at the Bienal, if he is performing.

Was there last time. Saw Pepe Habichuela which had been sold out for months just by turning up a bit early - there seemed to be plenty left free at the door.

mrstwinkle--

Thanks for the tip. We will be in Sevilla for a few days before the Bienal starts, so I'll ask around.

Bill--

I don't see Cepero listed on the program, but few guitarists are. Among them are Manolo Franco and Niño de Pura; Tomatito; Antonio Rey and Diego del Morao; Gerardo Núñez, Ulf Wakenius and Cepillo. Some, but not necessarily all of these would interest me.

To get the .pdf of the full official program, go to this URL

http://www.labienal.com/en/programa/#programa=.programa-inicial

Look down the left side of the page until you come to "descarga aquí la programación completa." Click on this button, and you should get a .pdf downloaded. Open it in Adobe Reader or the like, scroll down past the full page collage to get to the actual data.

We'll miss each other by a week ...

So does that mean you'd like to see El Bola, Petete and Alvaro Martinete? 'Cos when I visit the official Bienal homepage all other venues are bookable ...
Anyway, have fun, and don't miss the tapas!

Thanks, Richard. When I stated that Paco Cepero would be the one tocaor I would be interested in seeing, you might recall that Cepero and Paco Pena are my two favorite guitarists still playing, and in Pena's case still running the international circuit. This, no doubt, is a result of my antedeluvian approach to flamenco, and to other aspects of life and culture as well!

Enjoy the Bienal. A full report is expected upon your return.

Bill-

It remains to be seen how many Bienal events I will be able to get into. Most of the shows I am interested in are sold out on the official internet ticket site.

My own antedeluvian trait is failure to keep up with how many more people there are now than there were fifty years ago, and how quickly things sell out on the internet. For a popular event/place you have to act much further in advance than you did when I was 30.

I got used to buying airline tickets at least 45 days in advance back in the 1990s, while I was still piling up a few hundred-thousand airline miles per year traveling on business, but I still haven't become accustomed to buying tickets to cultural events 90 days ahead of time.

Among those sold out when I started looking seriously: Argentina, Carmen Linares, Farruquito (a few seats left, none decent), Ines Bacan, Maria Terremoto, etc., etc.

I have to leave Sevilla for Madrid no later than 21 September, to return to USA.

The whole Bienal thing is very unflamenco. Usually I'm kicking myself because of the opposite - I book tickets to go to somewhere in Andalucia then find out at 48 hours notice before I go that an event I REALLY want to see is just before/after my stay.

I will be there from the 7th to the 22nd, then to Granada and London before heading home. I am not looking into buying tickets for any event yet. Will think about that when I get there. Guitar lessons and tapas are priority.

Anyone going to see Tomatito and heading back to Cadiz from the show? I would like to try to get to the show but again the last train is leaving at 21.50 and the show starts at 20.30

Answering my own question, general opinion here in Sevilla seems to be that scalped Bienal tickets are effectively nonexistent. I have asked concierges in 4-star hotels, cab drivers, people attending a show at Jose Luis Postigo’s Casa de la Guitarra, and people I have dealt with in shops and restaurants. The consensus seems to be that Bienal ticket sales are “muy bien controlada,” and the scalpers have not got their hooks into it as they used to do (may still do) in the toros business.
