"De Peña en Peña", in th...

Fellow flamenco enthusiasts who are planning to be in Jerez for the big date may want to add to their list of venues to see the "de peña en peña" flamenco series, part of the annual Festival de Jerez, now in its tenth year.

For those who haven't attended the Festival before, the series takes place in a distinct peña flamenca in Jerez, for most nights of the festival. Performances start between 12 and 1, usually after all the other venues have finished. It's a good chance to see local flamenco in a local setting, and socialise with the other foreigners attending the festival and quite a number of "jerezanos" as well. Though you should never count on it, often times there are post-performance juergas, completely unplanned, usually with "aficionados" or artistas that are associated with the peña. Best thing of all, it's free of charge, so it's advisable and part of the spirit of things to make your contribution at the bar, so to speak.

The schedule, as it appeared in today's edition of Diario de Jerez, can be seen at: www.houseinjerez.com/Flamenco.html
(scroll down after the regular programme). See you there!
