Yep, I'm going to the Jose Ignacio Franco Escuela - they have a masterclass with Diego del Morao and a Concierto en Intimo on the last day.

Personally I'd hit facebook and look up all performers you might be interested in - while I love the place they're a bit rubbish at advertising stuff more than 10 days in advance so get as many leads as possible.

Visit a bodega or 2 for sure.

For me the “off festival” shows at La Guardia were way better than the officia festival shows.

Look out for peñas that are open to the public, for a small fee, during the festival. I think they are called "Peñas de Guardia" and well worth visiting later in the evening for a genuine, less showy experience.

I believe the main show tickets are on sale on the day, at the Teatro Villamarta. Worth buying them early.

Can you tell me the location of this place?

I'm having hard time finding flamenco of the aficionados in Cadiz area, altough there are some shows of the famous artists, I'm hoping to see pansequito in sevilla on 15th december. I assume also because this is the zambomba season.

I think he means the "Peñas de Guardia" I referred to in my post (only during the festival) and they will be in the programme guide. May be wrong.

I’m talking about this place. I did spell it wrong the first time.

La Guarida del Angel
Calle Porvenir, 1, 11401 Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, Spain

I don’t know if they have a peña there or not, during festival there’s usually 3 shows or so a night there. Amazing shows, BIG names for very cheap. Usually some famous Flamenco’s in the audience too. It’s walking distance from the teatro villamarta.

Thank you!

This is really useful. I could feasibly Visit Jerez 7th-12th and attend the Diego masterclass.

Some more questions:

1. My Spanish is not great, is that an obstacle to attending these masterclasses?

2. Can you hire/borrow guitars? (Not feasible for me to travel with my own, plus I’m paranoid)

3. What standard do you need to be to get the most out of it?

Perhaps if there are a few people going we could organise a FF meet up....

You will find the programm to the off without difficulty.
For drinking and eatting no problem there are much places.

For the class guitar. Here it's common To take lesson per month.
But you cant stay one month so take private lesson .
If you think To go at the master class of diego i presume you have a decent level.

The best teacher for me are manuel parrilla and roman vicenti.
For manuel it's difficult because he dont give lot of class even during the festival. Maybe by chance he will give master class during festival.

So i highly recommend you roman, he dont have especially a jerez toque but he know how To play all styles, for solo cante baile.
He is the better To play paco.
And he is great teacher.

finally depend on your money all the guitarist can give you lesson, but pedagogy and great playing are not always syncronisated.

Good luck

Message him on Facebook and he'll send IBAN number for bank transfer. He speaks no English so get Google translate ready if necessary.

It is a school and they have complete beginners so they might well rent guitars....

I sent money on Saturday which should reach them today so I'll chase tomorrow to get confirmation.

Not done a masterclass before and it is way above my level (no false modesty). And my Spanish is at best post-beginner, so no idea of difficulty....

Last year they did some official guitar lessons viewable as a link from the main programme, but I can't see any non-dance stuff this year. It might appear later....

get a cheap "beater"/travel guitar.
Mine is a Valeriano Bernal Prodigio, but you could get anything.
I met a guy with one of those cheap Yamaha flamenco's and it was really very good for the money.
Get a Hiscox flight case for it.
Check it in the hold and don't worry about it.
Mine has been to Spain lots of times from the UK, which is only a short flight, but I have also taken it to Texas.
Rest of the time it hangs on the wall above the sofa for easy reach.
It hasn't cracked or split yet.

Great suggestion thanks. However my wife will divorce me if I buy any more guitars, gadgets, or bikes!
