Replace golpeador amateur method

I want to replace the golpeador as the original is peeling away at one corner.

Piecing together bits from other posts I -think- the process is.
Heat up an edge with hairdryer to weaken glue.
Pull away slowly, moving hairdryer slowly in front of bit to be pulled away?
Clean up gunky residue with lighter fluid. I'm in UK - not sure of best brand.

I did a terrible job once and I suggest you to be very careful. Don't do it if your guitar has a cedar top. I found a good quality golpeador in Felipe Conde's shop.

I've replaced many golpeadores on cedar tops. It's the finish you have to worry about not the top wood.

I have a cedar sound board guitar, that has a Shellac French Polished finish, does this fall into you category of finishes to watch out for ?

It's not impossible: slow and careful work can achieve everything. My point is that there is a good risk and I for one wouldn't touch it.
In one case when I removed the golpeador - and I assure you I was working very slowly - I took away a chip of cedar. Aargh...I'm even ashamed to name the guitar I damaged.
In a different occasion the job seemed perfectly ok but then a couple of days after, I received a phone call from the owner of the guitar (in this case it was a cedar top Sanchis Carpio) as the synthetic finish was somehow affected by the hot air and now gave an unusual clearer shadow on the top under the day light.
I agree with John that the main point here is the finish. A Urethane or any tough finish highly reduces the risk of making a mess.
But then you have to assess also the kind of golpeador you want to remove: I saw golpeadores with a very tough glue, difficult to soften and cedar is a soft wood, peeling off quite easily. It's not at all a solid foundation.
Also you should make sure that hot hide glue has not been used for bridge and struts of your guitar as a flow of hot air could take them off.

I am SO noclueless so not sure what the finish is. The 'usual' finish of low/midrange guitars whatever that is (Valeriano Bernal La Serrania) Not a cedar top though. Here is the ebay listing although I paid even less than the price shown below so guitar owes me nothing...

So the peeling off bit is basically just hairdryer and patience - no solvent at that point? Given it is already peeling away at one corner I'm hopeful the glue is weak.

Get some naphtha, it's safe to use with all normal finishes. As you lift the golpeador apply the naphtha with something like a pipe cleaner bent in half. It will hopefully soften the glue. Bend the plastic tightly back on itself as you slowly remove it. If you use heat don't get it too hot. I use a heat gun and just sweep it back and forth a few times every 30 seconds or so.

Not sure if anyone has looked at the ebay pics, but anyone hazard guesses what the wood on the top and sides are? (colours on ebay pics are pretty accurate). Pretty sure top is pine, but the sides are a lot lighter than the rosewood on my other Bernal - is it even rosewood at all?

Since you probably didn't read through the entire thread where I removed my first golpeador with hair dryer, I will tell you DON"T USE THE HAIRDRYER or lighter fluid....go to hardware store and buy VM&P NAPTHA....use cotton balls and patience. I can do the job in 1.5 hours at this point but it took some experience and mistakes to get to that point.

Thanks guys - lighter fluid it is (in UK Bull Brand - only listed ingredient is 'nafta' -
contents in Spanish for some reason. Made a start and first cm came away okay. Stopping for now as need to order replacement golpeador before I go further....
