Went to the VA concert last night. Same group he brought last time, and a similar show with the exception of him playing stuff from the new record. His guitar sounded really really good. Really good. He started with a solo-I think it was mostly the tarranta from his first record which morphed into solea. Kinda rambling like he was trying to find his feet. His technique was really strong but I think he was winging it, warming up. He played the intro to the tribute to Paco, but then went into another tune I didn't know. Kinda rushed the intro. He played the alegrias from the new record and the sig, which was a standout, the rumba, and at the end of the show one of the bulerias. He played all the new tunes faster than the recording, and he was not as accurate. I think if he'd slowed it down to the recorded tempo, it would have been a lot cleaner. Singing was great, so was the dancing. They did some juerga style bulerias with some great singing and dancing. I didn't hear a note the second guitarist played, and again the bass player was good, and he was appropriatley restrained, but I'd rather have heard a second singer, or more from the second guitarist. I think the solea from the new record was the highlight, he played it super clean and strong. Lots of really strong picado all night. All in all, an amazing night of guitar playing, and some really strong singing and dancing. Likely not his best night, but when you are one of the world's best, it's still pretty amazing.
