Llanto a Cadiz Tientos rhythm questions

Hey, I have to question about the phrasing of Paco de Lucías Tientos Llanto A Cadiz.
Do you understand those notes at 0:07 that lead into the "A" note as sixteenth notes or quintuplets with the first note not being played?
Second thing that confuses me is the at 0:11-0:14. Are those note triplets or sixteenth notes starting after the downbeat?

interesting question.

there are lots of parts like this.

do you need to nail it down as one thing or the other?

why not just play it as you hear it, without worrying about which it is?

was Paco thinking about triplets, 16ths or quintuplets?

more likely he was just feeling the rhythm and playing in and around it.... I figure if I want to ever play anything like him I probably need to be doing the same.... or at least working towards that....

Tientos de Cádiz is just tangos slowed down; 4 por 4. Paco is just messing around with an introduction and connects with a more strict thythm at .26.

This is very common nowadays: guitarrists play a free introduction and nobody knows what palo the are going to play until the compás starts

Isn't it better to think of it as a slightly deconstructed chord rather than individual notes?

As far as i can judge the answer to your first question is : sixteenth (it actually seems to drop slightly before rather then after the beat but i guess it is supposed to drop on the beat).

As far as the second question is concerned, i tend to believe the first set is played in triples and the second and third set are played as sixteenth notes starting after the beat.

I never studied all those tientos this and tientos that versions but to me it sounds very strict and very tientos from the very start :-)

i just found this introduction in my fathers lesson book and he choose the exact interpretation i mentioned above :-).

1. The A is a pick up triplet 8th to beat 4, the next three notes (C#-A-G#) are triplets over count 4, ends on downbeat (7th fret A)

2. Those start right after count 4, 16ths, e & ah 1, (2) e &ha 3 (4) etc....
