Frenchy lefty

Salut from South Lake Tahoe California

Hi everyone, I am a frenchman who lives in South Lake Tahoe, Ca. My main instrument is electric bass but I have played guitar for as long as I have played bass (30yrs).

I recently started a flamenco duo using a left handed Cordoba GK guitar. I have a lot to learn before being able to play at the level I want to reach but I practice a lot and my bass playing rythm skills and knowledge of music theory skills are helpful.

Two annoyances for me:
1 I am a lefty which makes finding instruments more challenging
2 Having long nails prevent me from playing bass and I need to trim them when people ask me to do bass studio sessions.

Great things for me, almost no one else plays flamenco in my area and my mediocre duo has no difficulties finding gigs.

Welcome!
In my experience pro flamencos have shorter nails than beginner flamencos, the long nails buys them some margin of error that pro's don't need and the short nails produce better sounds. But if you're looking for warm bass tones any nail at all can be too much, good luck juggling that.

Thank you for your welcome guys. Leñador, I am just in process of finding out the whole nail thing but yes it does not seem that extremely long nails are needed (regardless it is too long for bass playing where you need them trimmed). Years of bass playing makes picado playing a very natural transition. I am learning the rythmic idioms of flamenco and I felt that joining this forum was helpful to this goal.
What I bring to the table is my extensive knowledge of studio techniques and equipment and I'll be happy to chime in when such matters arise.

Welcome to the foro. As far as nail length is concerned, when i'm less trained i need longer nails to hit the sting for sure as when i'm better trained. The few times in my life i did some really serious studying on as daily base my plugging nails were shorter as most have trimmed their fretting hand nails (they were about as long as a treble string is thick). If you could reach that precision of plugging you might be able to combine both disciples using the same ultra short nail lengt.
