Guitar making

Joan's new thread on a Joan Maher fretless flamenco,

I will start a new build for a Maher spruce top build with Santos rosewood back and sides, sometime next month... I am not looking for your support as I never had it and never will... I build guitars by myself for people I care for...Kids who can't afford hand made guitars....

You can count on no support whatsoever from me.

Joking aside, does that mean that you give away guitars for free or at a very reduced price? That's a great thing to do. My teacher gave away his first 12 guitars to schools, musicians in need, even a convent although the nuns gave it back because it was too nice and violated their vows of poverty. If I didn't need money I would give away every guitar I make...sounds like much more fun than worrying about getting paid and all that.

I can give you my lack of support too, if Andy's not enough. I also give my guitars away for free (only 7 so far, not much), in my case, to friends. Built a couple for my kids too (they are now pretty beaten up). Feels nice.

Hope you actually put some pics up.

Cheers,
Miguel.

I gave away three or four of my first guitars- Two went to Cuba via a friend and one I gave away to a former art professors husband, who is a nut. And I gave one to the Oakland Public Conservatory.

I also gave my old also sax to the SF Jazz Festival student fund. But that was an act of mercy on my neighbors more than a helpful used instrument for a needy child.

Yes guitars are for kids for free and friends, and will post some pictures.

Good luck with the fretless and since I know nothing about that. No support from me.
