RE: Spanish terminology for guitars (in reply to Guest

http://www.johnguitar.com/glosary.htm

Someday I hope to add some guitar words to this page. "Barniz a pistola" might be a good way to describe lacquer and "tiro" is scale length, "de India" and "de Rio" can be added to "palosanto" for your rosewoods and "ancho del diapasón" is width of fingerboard. The rest is there on the page I think.

Thanks for posting that Johnny. Very useful, at least for me. Now if someone would post a lexicon of flamenco terminology!

Gecko, make a list and put on the public discussion, and lets see if we can translate it.

That's a good idea. It would take me a while to compile it though. But what the heck! It would give me something to do and keep me out of the bars for a while!

Hy nealf

I gonna try it:

Spruce - pino abete
Indian Rosewood - palosanto de india
Brazilian Rosewood -palosanto de rio (de brazil)
Top of guitar - tapa harmonica
Back & Sides of guitar - aros y fondo
scale length - tiro
width of fingerboard - ancho del diapasón
Lacquer - barniz
French Polish - goma laca

To create a lexicon for such terms would be a great idea.
