I MADE A CEJILLA!

I made myself a cejilla at college this week...

It is modelled after a Pedro De Miguel cejilla (kindly supplied by Errol- Flamencoguru) which was made from bone.

I changed the design by using oakwood instead of bone. The black and white layers are ebony and holly veneer, and I think the orange wood is mahogany.

Here is a picture:

another picture including the peg (which fits snugly thanks to a violin peg tapering machine!):

There- all done! I am currently working on a plane (for shaving wood, not flying!) that is made from boxwood, and fits into the palm of your hand.

Well acxtually, this one is just a prototype. I plan to make more of them in the future, so that if the guitar making career falls through, I can sell cejillas instead!

But what I really want to do is try copying some of the conde style cejillas- some of them are reallycomplex.

If anyone knows of any good books or websites with more details on cejilla making please let me know!

Thats a good idea Doit... I might do it sometime.

Here are some pictures of the plane I made. I call it the "Mouse Plane" because it is small and shaped like a mouse... it even has a little "eye" made out of rosewood which is actually the crosspin to hold the blade wedge.

First pic:

second pic, shows the base. I still need to make a blade for the plane, and it will eventually sit underneath the wedge and protrude from the small slot you can see in the base:

last one, heres the front view, showing the blade slot with the wedge and crosspin block inside. The blade will be in there too eventually!

Peter (Gerundino),
Thanks for the PM. Your idea is EXCELLENT, and I think it would work very well with certain types, like you mentioned. It would also be quite easy to do... much easier than making the cejilla itself!
When I get a chance to try it out, I may even send you one to thank you for the inspiration.

Good luck with the sculpting... maybe you should try sculpting out of wood sometime!

Thanks again!

Maybe I work in some wood in the future, wood is a very inspiring material.

Good luck, and if you use the idear, I would be honoured to have one!

Hi Koella,

It is not a secret, but all the world can read what we write here, so, to profit from something, and keep it among ourself, it is not wise to post everything everywhere.

But if anybody is really curious, send me an email, and I share it with you.

But it is no big deal whatsoever.

Peter
