Does anyone own the Almoraima score ...

Hello! Does anyone own Paco de Lucia's Almoraima score book by Enrique Vargas? Ive been looking online and the prices are between $50-$200. A little too steep for me. I was wondering if someone had a PDf version of it... or wouldn't mind scanning it and uploading it as a PDF. Thanks!

Gabe - are you publicly asking for violation of copyright laws? Beware of the flamenco police.

I have a book of Paco's music that contains Almoraima, but it has no tab. Transcription by Minoru Setta. Let me know if that would be useful to you.

Who do you think are the ‘flamenco police’? The people who are being ripped off by illegal copying are likely to be fellow members of the flamenco fraternity.

To my mind the price tag on that book- official transcription, very good, is high but there must be a reason for it- I guess there is not that much demand, relatively speaking (although those who want it, want it badly and will pay) and so a big publisher needs to and can charge high prices to make it worth their while.

If you just want the tab I'm sure theres a pretty good Affedis transcription for each of the tunes available for much less.

Yeah, but the book has transcriptions for both guitar players, the bass track and the oud. It's pretty much a dream come true book for me. Maybe I should just pay for it.

$60 for a music book is no more than the price of a couple hours tuition with a professional player. If its a dream book for you then its really not much for something that will last a lifetime.

Yeah,
It's cheap IMO. How many hours did it take to put it together? How many would it take you to transcribe it? Be happy someone did it.

If you end up buying it, definitely don't get it for 200 USD. It sells for around 40 EUR in Spain so prices that high are just rip-offs.

I will buy it. Just seeing if there was a cheaper alternative before I spend what to me is a lot of money for someone who works service industry jobs.

It still amazes me how some people think it's their inherent right to rip off people who have created something that they themselves could never have created.

Yup. I got mine (Almoraima as well as several others) from flamencoexport.com. 41 Euros per book plus shipping to Canada. I got the books without a problem; have ordered several times from them.

I'm not trying to rip anyone off, I'm willing to pay for a digital copy as well, I'm just trying to find if there is a non- paper alternative to this book, for sale or free. A simple yes or no would suffice. Sounds like a no, so I will buy a hard copy. I wasn't trying to start a dialogue over the ethics of downloading information from the internet. Bill, have you ever burnt a CD for a friend or let someone borrow a book? Or watched a music video on YouTube not uploaded by its owner? Because that might be ripping someone off as well. The sad truth is in a digital age its hard for artists not to be ripped off by people with mass amounts of free information available at the click of a button. I agree with your sentiment but it is too nuanced to live vigorously by.

Maybe it's a generational thing-I'm in my late 50's but when I was learning flamenco, I'd have paid a lot more than today's going rate for this book. In fact, most aficionados have spent thousands and thousands on lessons, trips to Spain, you name it. We would have killed for what is either free, or incredibly cheap today. The Nunez vid, the Tomatito one, etc. nothing like that even existed. So, I guess it might rub some of us the wrong way when someone complains about spending 60.00 for something that many of us would have gladly shelled out hundreds for 25 years ago. I still buy some material from flamenco players here and there, and have a rather large collection of stuff, however, what I've come to believe is that if you can't get it it by ear(especially with software that slows down the music) you can't play it anyway.

Mark, I 100% agree with you, and I am so grateful for the amount of information available to me. I'm currently saving up to take a trip to Spain to study with some teachers in Seville next summer. In the meantime I will soak up all the resources I can find online and from my guitar teacher. The power of free information is immense...

Got it, Gabewolf. Your initial post seemed to suggest it, but I understand where you're coming from on this now.

I am a strong supporter of what is normally termed Intellectual Property Rights, i.e., observing the terms of copyrighting of books, albums, CDs, films, etc. There are too many people who have no talent or creativity themselves but are perfectly willing to rip off those who do. And to push back against this form of theft is not to be a member of the "Flamenco Police," as has been suggested.

Taking it one step further, and aside from Intellectual Property Rights, there have been instances on the Foro of people wanting Foro members to satisfy their desire for "instant gratification," instead of working toward their goal themselves. We have had someone who claimed to have a broken guitar and was trying to cadge a "free" guitar from our luthiers. We have had at least a couple of instances of attempting to solicit "kickstarter" funding to finance trips and flamenco study in Spain, offering "lessons" in return. I place all of this under the rubric of "Scamenco." Scamenco seems to be thriving, and it occasionally enlists the efforts of Foro members in trying to further its aims. Fortunately, most recognize it for what it is.

Welcome to the Foro.

Bill

Just paid £35 inc. postage for mine, the cost of one guitar lesson. Bargain for such a classic work.

I would be interested in getting the feedback of those who supported that kickstarter in exchange for lessons.
Did you get any interesting material out of it? Worth your buck etc.?
You probably know I was fairly critical of it, but here I'm not trying to pile on, just honestly wondering what the end result might have been for those who chose to participate.

They're weren't scheduled to have it done till some time in September. It looks like their right about on track even though they just had a baby. I was on the fence but some dancer I play for sometimes out here is friends with them in Sevilla when she does her biannual trip and she kind of talked me into it. Small world, she emailed it to me and I was like "oh yeah they just posted that on the foro, how the F do you know them???" We'll see, I'll try to post a thorough review.
