Haha I did - and it does!
But why the damper?

Ramzi posted a different (possibly more popular) picado exercise just now - which might very well be by Antonio Rey

I learnt a version of it in a class with Gerardo Nuñez in the late 90's, the triads and scale fragments moving up and down the neck, but not with the longer scale run in 1st position. Gerardo might have added that later (or earlier and then dropped it!), or Antonio might have added that bit, or someone else that Antonio got it from....

Ahha - thanks Mark - mystery solved! - or rather, I re-remembered now that Ricardo solved it some time ago.

The original exercise is from Gerardo Nunez and is in his "La Guitarra Flamenca de Gerardo Nunez" book, the Encuentro series (2001), pp. 72-73.

Gerardo starts it with what is now the 2nd chord shape - the B major (in 2nd position), then it goes up to C major (in 3rd), D major (in 5th), E minor (in 7th), D7 (in 8th), does not go to the G major in 10th position but starts going back and eventually end with a simple arpeggiated descending run in open string E minor.

Also the right-hand fingering is supposed to be picado as amim amim amim repeating pattern (every chord shape sequence thus takes two amim RH patterns).

I guess Antonio Rey adds - or maybe this is just Gerardo's slightly more elaborate version of this exercise - the starting open string E minor, the 10th position G major chord shapes and a descending and ascending end scale in E (harmonic?) minor and the ending chord - with simple im alternation for the right hand, i.e. 'regular' picado.

On balance I'd call it a Gerardo Nunez exercise. In addition to this above, another argument for it is that, just before it in the same book, Gerardo presents a simpler version of the exercise. So, clearly he had multiple versions in mind, extensible as one sees fit to challenge oneself.

To decrease the guitar's volume. It's such a loud instrument and my right ear is bothering me, so I prefer quieter playing now. I'm getting my hearing formally evaluated in the next few days, so we shall see...

Oh right, you did say this before, sorry I forgot. Hope you get better.

They did a battery of tests and all of them said my hearing was either normal or above normal, except for otoacoustic emissions that showed in my right ear that my high frequency range was normal yet on the lower limit of the normal range. The audiologist said perhaps because my hearing is so good that I'm overly sensitive to any changes and that may be the reason I noticed the tiny change. Either way, I am going to get some custom-fit hearing filters that I'll use when playing guitar and while at tango events from now on to further protect.
