RE: NEW WEB FLAMENCO GUITAR CLASS (in reply to jlclarinel

Surely a helpful project, but I have some critical remarks. Paying 30 $ for a month to access the entire library sounds fine. But I cannot find any info on the contract for conditions, such as term, cancellation etc. I would prefer paying a smaller rate, because I don´t like to pay for the whole library if I´d be interested just in 1 special toque. And what does the info mean "No front page content has been created yet"?

To me it looks like a big collection of excercises and falsetas. So this is really nothing new. Especially there are no guitar related flamenco lessons available online explaining the structures of each toque. Afaik there are no flamenco guitar online lessons as well, where you can learn the correct palmas, that is absolutely important for a guitarist to train general and advanced stability in compás. Threre are some palmas lessons available online, but mostly you can forget them, because there is just 1 person demonstrating the How To. So you´ll never learn how it is done in a group the way the flamenco do it at a juerga.

To be honest I don´t see your USP(s). It would be helpful if you could provide some more info.

Saludos
Bernd

Dear jlclarnel,

I´m sorry you take my remarks for being meant as destructive. That was defintely not what it meant to be. It wouldn´t be fair as well, because you have some renound guitarists to provide the guitaristic essence. Very often people of non-rhythmic cultures have serious compás problems. Why do you think it is destructive to critize something that you can build up to a real USP?

I haven´t played a lot of time and I´m beaten by (thank God a little) focal dystonia. So it is definitely interesting for me to look around for some options to get a wider focus on new material, beside of the common old common stuff I already made over the years. I still buy methods from time to time or take part in workshops if I have the oppertunity. One option is online lesson.

My critical view on your offer is part of my bad experience. So have expected to get a more substancial info from you.

olé tu Jose Luis.
I always loved your instructional videos on youtube and they helped me a lot.
You are one of my heroes!

Bernd did you saw the toma flamenco videos by Jose Luis Rodriguez on youtube? They aren't just "falsetas and exercises" he gives great advice about the important things. check this out, one of my favorites:

I suppose his project will be in this manner.

About the focal dystonia: try with the Feldenkraiss technique

About the rest.... I know about the bud experience. That's why I'm trying to give other options of approach to flamenco structures. I'm living in the US 5 years ago and it's part of the reality here. I have the commitment of trying to bring the best mode of teaching a I can. I know, never will be the same that have a group of people around you singing and playing palmas, but that will be a personal work. I'll give tools to the students, tools and repertoire, but I try to give the opportunity of use the repertoire to built your own.

I hope to give any help to the student, as servant, not as a Master.

About the cost.... That's something that depend of many factors.... developers, directors, designers, video cameras, expenses..... not only the fees, but all the expenses to get the software, the developers, etc.... I think it's a very reasonable price for subscriptions.

Thank you for your feedback

Very nicely produced jlclarinel.
I would agree with Bernd, however, on the desirable need to share a little more of the "content" one would purchase. And I realize that it is always difficult to strike a fair balance between showing what the lessons will be without giving them away before one subscribes and pays...

You are competing with an enormous amount of freely available information on youtube alone, making the need to "prove" your worth certainly critical to the success of your site.

My two cent reaction.

I think Jose Luis Rodriguez don't need to "prove his worth".
Every advice from him is worthier than 1000 of those stupid free videos from players who don't no what they're doing. I'd be happy that players like Jose Luis Rodriguez make instructional videos for such less money.
BTW There are a lot of videos on youtube of him teaching and performing.

No need to get all exercised about it.

Of course, I used the words "Your Worth" referring to the Website and Services he offers, not to JLR as individual and/or musician.

This thread and the link to the website are an ordinary "sales pitch", and I offered my views as a consumer, since I found the website interesting, but explained why I found myself hesitating to subscribe.

RE: NEW WEB FLAMENCO GUITAR CLASS (in reply to jlclarinel

Thank your for your replies. José Luis Rodríguez is what we in Germany would call "a big house number" to refer to his professional passion in flamenco guitar. Although I´m a student of Gabriel Cabrera, you would laugh seeing me play. Since I´m on focal distonia (4 years now) and having played too long and too less, I always try to keep me up to date.

Beside of focal distonia my problem is, that I couldn´t find time to learn Spanish properly, but now I´ve made a new decission. José Luis Rodríguez is a garant for quality, but afaik he only speaks Spanish what would make many people staying away; in any case this is valid for Germany, where many people go to Gerhard Graf-Martinez. But he doesn´t teach online, just clinic.

Every system has it pros and cons and depends on individual decissions. By my own opinion there is too less info to have seen an appetizer. So other people may see vice versa.

RE: NEW WEB FLAMENCO GUITAR CLASS (in reply to jlclarinel

I was a member there 4 several months and here is my 20cents worth.
1. The videos are of a very high standard and the structure of the lessons are excellent

2 The material is very musical and of middle to advanced level from a playing point of view

3 The cost is reasonable but.....

4 You cant choose what to study. You have to pay first for the month and see what comes up. A small selection is released at a time in predetermined toques
.
5 In my case all of a sudden i couldnt log in even though I had paid. The site didnt recognise my password or login. You cannot contact them about a problem unless you are a member because correspondence requires log in first. I had to go to my paypal and cancel that way.

hola Jose Luis

RE: NEW WEB FLAMENCO GUITAR CLASS (in reply to bernd

Bernd.... FELDENKRAISS technique could help you a lot with your focal dystonia, believe me. Look for it on-line.

Other thing.... Jose is living in the US 5 years ago.... He speaks english, not super fluid, but he does. And all the web is being translated in english-spanish and we are looking for French and Japanese translators.

I mean.... you are free of trust or not about the web, but Jose is doing his best to create a good support for guitarist with medium-high level and a better understanding of flamenco structures, history and cultural context. Obviously we'll it's impossible to make happy everybody, but, believe me, we are trying to make a good work with the web. Problems? Always.... we could have an idea, but we depend of many factors, not only what we would like.... We have to be in the middle of students, developers, sponsors, technical problems, our own time, etc.....

Hug

RE: NEW WEB FLAMENCO GUITAR CLASS (in reply to jlclarinel

Jlclarinel, thank you for the Feldenkraiss hint. I´ve heard of it and give it a try.

I´m convinced that your intention is good. But you really should put a stronger focus on quality management regarding some technical problems. I never would pay any cent just to get in touch with a site runner, if I need to register first. It is not trustful to do a sales pitch for a commercial website out of function one has to pay for. Your intention is good but your marketing is contraproductive. Either it works, than promote it and be happy to get as many followers you can get, or it does not work.

It seems you haven´t thought about your "Plan B" including some regulations on data protection. As you may know, in Germany we have the strongest data privacy act in Europe (or even in the world) whereas in the US personal data protection is not worth a penny. The obligation to register first to get in touch with a site owner of a commercial website is totally forbidden here. Having posted this on a German forum or having found the website owned by somebody living in Germany would absolutely have caused a written warning incl. the obligation to make a declaration of discontinuance with a penalty clause. It is summarized under data collection.
Please don´t take this as meant to offend you, it is not. When you focus to win people from serveral different countries, you can improve something to build up trust e. g. by giving clear data terms and active contact details that are available without registration. An FAQ page (maybe you already have it) improves the integrity of your program.

I tell you this all, because I made the same mistake, when I was promoting my Gitarre Online project 16 years ago. Do what you want, but do it properly ;-)
Just my few Cents to give you some helpful info.

That is my problem...if you cannot log in for some technical reason you cannot communicate with them to resolve the issue. Also this then means that unlike for example Adam del Monte's site, once you stop paying you no longer have access to the lessons that you have already paid for.
