Hahaha brilliant! I still think someone should give the Jimi Hendrix a-m-i-tooth rasgueado a try.

You'd have to be so careful about how you file your teeth. The slightest roughness or unevenness and you'd sever a string and take an eye out. All that blood is going to make for one hell of a show.

But if you could get the filing right the all tooth alzapua might not be too hard.

Oh man. Barb on tooth cuts through the string's wire binding making a barb on the string which then rips open the tongue - more blood. This is awesome, flamenco is going to out-metal metal.

It cracks me up!! Time to get the webcam out Piwin.

RE: Tips on continuous rasgueado (in reply to Dudnote

Excerpt from "A History of Andalucia" published in 2257:

In one traditional bedtime story, Andalucians mothers would give a detailed and vivid description of the bloodied smile of the flamenco player to frighten their children from staying out too late at night or playing too close to bars. What came to be known as the boogiemenco man was an iconic figure of Andalusian folklore for several générations, until the rise of genetic engineering and the new generation of 19-fingered guitar players made the practice of all-teeth-alzapua obsolete.

Just give me a week or two to go a dentist appointment and get my teeth filed first!

If I were to tackle this, alternating i and e (both down) would be my plan for a while.

You can only go as fast as the transition between those two fingers.

Lenny needs to incorporate the beard into the rasgueado. a-m-i-i-beard

Usually all guys have 10 fingers + 1, so perhaps that can be incorporated too.

I tried to slow down each one of these basic rasgueados while preserving the finger movement timings as much as possible. Also, watch the hand position in relation to the strings.

You are welcome! Yes, that's exactly what I do, although at speed it's not as abrupt.

Excellent Grisha. That DeVoe (and your playing) sounds amazing!
Somehow even though you only shared the video here someone has given you a thumbs down! I don't understand, perhaps they are psychologically challenged. I gave you a thumbs up to even the score

great rasgueo grisha.
Do you "flick" from the palm or from the thumb?

Pretty good Grisha - but real men warm up with a-a-m and move on to e-e-a once they're really cooking

You could post Jesus himself parting the sky and depositing a million dollars
into everybody's bank account, and you would get lots of thumbs downs.

The joy of youtube!

Grisha makes it look so simple and easy.

Thank you, guys! I think the timely return of the fingers is crucial for a good continuous rasgwado. I usually talk about this stuff in my masterclasses.

John, I love this guitar! It just started to really open up.

jof, I flick from the thumb, but only my index finger. The rest get more momentum from the friction between the fingers.

Dudnote, this is not a demonstration. I broke the nail on my little finger the other day, so the aim is slightly off. Thanks for that dislike, by the way!

Todd, thanks man!

Olé! Thanks for posting that. It reminds when I first watched Gerardo Nunez's Encuentro video. He starts showing the technique at slow speed. At that point I'm thinking, OK sure, I can manage that. Then he speeds up. I'm thinking OK, a bit harder but I think I can manage with some practice. But then he never stops speeding up!!! Until I finally just give up and decide to learn the bagpipes instead

Thanks so much Grisha. That kind of close up of the right hand was EXACTLY what I was looking for.

Grisha,

It looks like your a and m fingers do not fully extend.
My teacher mentioned to me to do this so the fingers can return faster.
Thanks for the video.
You should come down to San Diego to give a class, I can put you in touch with my teacher.

That video Grisha is really inspiring. Made me realize that galloping horse effect my iiam generates is really not where it's at. Practicing yesterday after watching your video I didn't fret 1 note. It's that link from upstroke to down that snags at anything other than snail pace. Strangely enough though , with a a m things don't snag so bad.

Thanks for posting!!

We should just copy whatever Steve Harris does to get that galloping effect.

Excellent!!

Copying that gallop is coming on all too easily - could be time I switch to listening to something else

That's exactly what any discerning flamenco would do if they heard it!!
