Sold-. Oct ,. '16 - 2016 Blanca Spru...

Kinda breaks my heart that all these good Foro guitar makers are listing guitars. We all work very hard and make good instruments.

My latest, 2016 Hinoki- Spruce
655 scale

Fabulous guitar. Video coming up. Abalone mosaic tie block cover, Rodriguez bracing under the top.

$3800.00 I will consider reasonable offers, or payments over time with substantial down payment. I accept credit card sales through Paypal.

A few pictures, thanks for looking. And contact me with any questions. Happy to answer.

Two more. I'm going to make a light diffuser to go with my crinkle paper "seamless" backdrop and take more pictures.

Here is a hissy bench video, the guitar is going off t be played by my bossoa nova friend Shohei in Nagoya and be recorded properly, but in the spirit of flamenco-ness I made a fast and dirty video.

This guitar is quite fine, it has Rodriguez pattern bracing, and it pretty too.

Thank you for writing. That falseta has become a bit koto like. It is A Davis Serva creation. But when I play it here people say "Oh you imitate the koto very well! "

Stephen,

That is a beautiful guitar. How would you compare Hinoki to Spanish Cypress as far as the characteristics of the wood (stiffness, density, finish, etc) and the effect on sound? What is the neck made from? It looks lighter than spanish cedar and seems to match the color of the guitar perfectly.

.

The Hinoki is a lot like Port Orford Cedar, or the Lawson Cypress. Hinoki is true Cypress and it is basically the Western Pacific cousin of the Lawson Cypress, they are in the same family but different species.

Stiffness to weight it is a good flamenco wood. It is a little less dense than Med. Cypress, but very light weight so when building with you can leave the back plate thicker and get the stiffness you want at no extra weight.

The ribs can be planed very thin and for flamencos thin ribs are good. Like the Lawson / Port Orford wood Hinoki is known for being crack resistant. It is not naturally prone to cracking, all woods crack if you push them that far, but these woods are known for not ripping along the grain, which makes them good for guitar building.

Difficult to compare sound wise, I think this wood makes very fine flamenco guitars, and there are so many sounds that can be flamenco. I like both cypresses and I would be happy to make blancas 50/50 with Med. Cypress or Port Orford - Hinoki.

If made correctly each of those woods makes nice dry blancas.

I also had at one time a few sets of California Nutmeg and it is similar confer which looks like Port Orford, but has a spicy smell. Really. I built two wonderful dry blancas with that wood. It grows here in Japan too and If I find some I will build with it. In Japan it is called Kaya.
