RE: Where has everyone gone? (in reply to xirdneH_imiJ

Well I like many have been just too busy. But now semi retired just bought a house in Puerto de Santa Maria near Cadiz and it is time to get active again. Since Xmas I've played everyday and next week have a lesson booked with a local gitano.

Here flamenco seems to be everywhere and stronger than I remember from previous visits. Perhaps that's just because I'm 90% here now but I've seen tons of stuff in the street and bars.

One thing my spanish wife found surprising was that after not touching a guitar for a year and only on and off for 4 years before that it all came back so quickly. I find if I think about something I've forgotten and lost the tab if I just start with something the fingers seem to find their way to the next few notes or whatever and bit by bit it comes back. That said I'm very much a beginner despite the years so we are talking simple stuff.

Well I'll be here more often now being as annoying as ever but I've mellowed since the Juan Martin wars so for sure won't be going back to that

Happy New Year one and all

Be my pleasure Escribano and tx for the best wishes. I'll try and get a video of the locals if I can without offending anyone. Although today in Puerto a guy with clarinet was doing some great stuff that was certainly not flamenco

Just back from market with salmonetes for tonight and merluza (hake) for tomorrow. Even at this time of year a BBQ is an option. And after much testing we found a tinto that is very pleasant at 1.58 in Mercadona. Wine rack is full.

But now back to practise until the Watford game kicks off - well flamenco and spanish life isn't everything

Flyeogh,

If you live in "El Puerto Santa Maria" I think you know this place, if not, don't hesitate to visit...

I think I joined the foro back in 2009 or so, not sure exactly.
At the time it was such a busy place with really interesting conversations & more importantly, uploads happening several times a day.
I have to admit I don't frequent the foro as much nowadays mostly because I was always mostly interested in listening to other players and there seems to be less of that now. Fair play to Juan for always putting up stuff in the swap shop.
Anyway, I'm sure you all remember how fun and educational it was to have Jason McG here. I know something happened but never cared enough for the drama to actually know what that something was. Florian was great too, he brought huge enthusiasm.
Others like Todd, Doit (innovative guitar upgrade aside ), John O etc don't seem to be around much anymore.
Personally I'd like to see the place gain back some of the enthusiasm and sharing of uploads/playing etc over the increasing quantity of Off-Topic posts that seem to be showing up.
No offense intended to anyone. Just interested in your thoughts
Regards,
John

Its because young people play pokemon Go instead of guitar nowadays

No but seriously, I bet you can see a similar decline in other genres like Jazz in a jazz forum too. Society and technology (as useful and interesting as it might be in some aspects) is killing the passion to start to play an instrument and replaced it with other things.
The older users get more and more busy or don't have much to add. And fresh new blood isn't coming.

Or they're just too busy practicing to hang out on a forum

I want to add my nephew to the list of non-guitar talents. He was selected to play at Carnegie Hall when he was 9 and now again at Carnegie this November. This kid has a tremendous ability to memorize pages and pages of notes in a very short time.

Think he said he was just going to take a break from the foro for a while.
But I suppose if you really want to know you should just ask him yourself and PM him or Something.
