Lewitt DGT 650 against Tascam DR 40 ...

I was curious how the Lewitt DGT650 mobile studio compares to my Tascam DR-40.

Of course somehow these are two devices adressing two different needs, but both beeing basically designed for quick mobile recording, I thought a comparison is not totally unfair.

The main difference is that DR 40 is self-contained, whereas DGT 650 needs either an iOs device like iPhone or iPad (thunderbolt input) for recording. One can also use a Mac Os (which I did, because I didn't have an extra USB power cable for the DGT 650 that is required on mobile devices) or Windows PC.

It wasn't a recording session proper, I just played short sequences over the whole range to the guitar.

The slightly over one minute takes have not been processes apart from mix down from 96/24 to 44.1/16 and used in the Youtube movie.

Of course in the original files the differences are clearer, but you can hear them well in the movie too.

I'm not going to tell you yet which is which. Do you like to guess?

Before I comment on the devices, listen for yourself...

Here it is:

The first one is obviously much better, so I am guessing it is the Lewitt.
I think either would be suitable for practice purposes, but the first one would be nice when presenting your playing to others.

I am curious about this one:

Spot on, the first is Lewitt.

I don't know the Rode device; I'd guess it's also fairly good enough for documentation of ones own work but quite likely not as good as Lewitt. But one would have to try...

If I could justify the expense I would definitely consider the Lewitt.
